In New Orleans, around three o’clock local time, a man drove a semi-truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. 10 people died. The police shot the attacker dead.
The incident happened in a popular tourist district that was full of people in the early hours of New Year’s Eve, who were rejoicing as they ushered in the new year.
Witnesses told CBS News what happened when the vehicle drove into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. “All I saw was a vehicle smashing into everyone on the left side of the sidewalk,” the 22-year-old said shortly after the incident Kevin Garcia for CNN. The driver then got out of the vehicle and started shooting. The police she responded with retaliatory shots. The shooter, who suffered serious injuries, was arrested. Police later said he succumbed to his injuries.
10 people died, around 35 were injured.
