Carnage. At least ten people died Wednesday after a vehicle plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Another 30 people were injured.
CBS News cites witnesses as saying that a truck drove into the crowd at high speed, after which the driver jumped out of the vehicle and began firing a gun, and police began to return fire.
One witness, 22-year-old Kevin Garcia, was quoted by CNN as saying, “All I saw was a truck hitting everyone on the left side of the Bourbon Street sidewalk. A body flew towards me”. He added that he also heard gunshots.
‘We are in the process of responding to a mass casualty accident involving a vehicle that drove into the crowd at Canal and Bourbon Street. There are 30 injured and 10 dead’, the emergency services said in a statement.
They did not specify the time of the incident, but the area was full of people celebrating the New Year in the historic district known as the French Quarter.
