VIENNA FASHION WEEK IN THE SIGN OF SUSTAINABILITY AND INCLUSION

Designer: Opening Show, unknown model

The 16th Vienna Fashion Week opened this week in the fashion tent in Vienna’s Museum Quarter, where a total of 26 shows by Austrian and international fashion designers will be presented. Among the participants are Viennese brands such as “Ferrari Zöchling” and “Pitour”, but also international creators such as the designer Jane Gavalcova from Slovakia or the Thai brand “Gingdid Design”, which impresses with its innovative pleated design.

In addition to the fashion show, from September 11 to 14, visitors will be able to buy fashion designer creations in the shopping area, as well as attend free talks with various experts from the fashion industry. The big theme of this year’s fashion event is sustainability and inclusion. The first individual day of the show started on September 10 with “Fashion Reload”, presented by the pensioners’ clubs of Vienna, showing unique upcycling pieces designed by older ladies. What is special is that older ladies are not only designers, but also models of their creations.

As part of the “Uplift” fashion show on September 12, designers from Vienna and Lower Austria will present redesigned pieces of clothing that were previously donated to Caritas. The fashion show promotes diversity and inclusion: models of all ages, genders, sizes and body shapes showcase redesigned pieces. All proceeds from the sale of repurposed fashion go to the “Gruft” homeless center. Creativity will be shown this year in addition to avant-garde creators such as “Cranz/Sonderling” or “Ferrari Zöchling”, and brands such as “Gingdid Design”, “VIKTORIA&VIKTOR” or “Rose Mars”, which represent modern street fashion that combines comfort and elegance. Also, five “haute couture” designers will participate this year: Claudier, Donamatoshi, Jana Gavalcova, Nicolas Dudek and Sabine Karner, who will present creative cuts and luxurious hand-made materials.

In addition to established designers, visitors will be able to see the creations of students of Viennese fashion schools.
