Views as a core metric on Facebook: Better performance analysis on both meta platforms

In the official Blog post by Meta for change The company explains that views replace plays in the video context and impressions in posts and stories.

(…) The new metric – called Views – tells you the number of times a reel or video was played or the number of times photo or text posts were on screen, and aligns with Instagram’s recently updated metrics.

If a person views content, such as a post, three times, three views are recorded. Those too Facebook video insights are adjusted regarding the view duration. Minutes Viewed and Average Minutes Viewed therefore replace Watch Time and Average Watch Time as sizes. Minutes Viewed rounds up to the minute and shows how much time was spent on videos – with Watch Time this could be recorded a little more granularly.

Other metrics such as reach, 3-second views, 1-minute views, reactions, comments and shares remain unchanged. Creators can view all the well-known and new metrics in the Professional Dashboard and via the Insights in the Meta Business Suite. The changes will be rolled out to everyone in the coming weeks.

This adjustment on Facebook ensures that creators who are active there and on Instagram can more easily measure and compare performance on both platforms with a uniform metric – which is not least relevant for advertisers and creators operating in a business context. The linking of Facebook and Instagram (as well as threads) is constantly being pushed forward by Meta. For example, users can share Facebook Stories on Instagram more easily than ever by simply tapping the Instagram logo in the Stories screen.
