“Violent threats” to Trump’s people

Several members of the future cabinet of the US president-elect, Donald Trump, have been the target of “violent threats”, including bomb threats, a spokeswoman for the US president-elect said on Wednesday.

“Last night and this morning, several people nominated by President Trump to join his team were the victims of violent and anti-American threats,” Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, noting that law enforcement acted quickly to ensure the security of the persons concerned.

She did not specify who they are and did not give details about the nature of the threats.

Spokesmen for the FBI and the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Karoline Leavitt also stated that the attacks “went from bomb threats to ‘swatting'”, that is, reporting a false crime in order to provoke a forceful police response to a person’s home.

“With President Trump as our example, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us,” added the spokeswoman.

Trump is in the process of announcing who will be selected to be part of his future cabinet and to fill other senior positions in his administration.

He has not yet commented on the threats mentioned by his spokeswoman.

They come months after Trump was wounded in the ear in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July.

In a separate incident, a man was charged with attempted murder in September after allegedly posing with a rifle at the edge of a Trump golf course in Florida.
