Virtual assistants run the show on a radio, employees were also fired –

More than 15,000 people have signed the petition against AI workers.

The management of OFF Radio in Kraków made a divisive decision: they dismissed many journalists from the radio station, and instead they started experimenting with virtual presenters based on artificial intelligence. The channel primarily wants to address the young audience, for which three “assistants” will be responsible from now on.

AI employees will host programs on cultural, artistic and social topics, and issues affecting members of the LGBTQ community will also come to the fore.

“We are looking to answer whether artificial intelligence is more of an opportunity or a threat for media, radio and journalism.”

– said Marcin Pulit, head of OFF Radio.

A CNN according to his report, several employees were fired from the station, including nationally known journalist and film critic Mateusz Demski, who voiced his displeasure in an open letter. According to Demski, the decision is dangerous and saddening: he sees that in the future – especially in the media sector and creative industries – machines will take over the jobs of many people.

The AI-based employees were already on the air on Tuesday, and by the next day, Demski’s petition against virtual assistants had been signed by more than 15,000 people.

Meanwhile, the head of OFF Radio denies the accusations. He claims that the employees were not fired because of AI. According to him, the radio’s audience has dropped significantly recently, so downsizing was inevitable.

Krzysztof Gawkowski, Minister of Digital Affairs of Poland in your X entry reflected on what had happened.

“Although I’m a fan of the development of artificial intelligence, I believe that technology is increasingly crossing certain boundaries. AI should not cause social differences or exclusion. The widespread use of artificial intelligence should be for people, not against them!”

Gawkowski wrote.
