FCSB – Virtus Live Video Online, in the 1st preliminary round of the Champions League

On Tuesday, July 16, FCSB continues its European journey in the new competitive season. The red-blues come after o stunning away win in San Marino. Darius Olaru scored a hat-trick, while David Miculescu and Daniel Popa each scored a double against Virtus, 7-1.

This result helps the team to relax and focus on the next preliminary round, where they will face the champion of Israel, Maccabi Tel-Aviv. In the first leg, on July 9, the students of Elias Charalambous showed that they really want to reach the Champions League groups, but the opponent was a very modest one, so they had no emotions at all. The next preliminary rounds will be more and more difficult because stronger and much better prepared opponents are coming.

FCSB have already played three matches this season in which they have won two and drawn one. On the other hand, for Virtus, the round game with the red-blues was the first of the new season. The odds are clearly in favor of FCSB and in the second leg, which will be played at the arena in Ghencea.

The debut in the Superliga was a clumsy one for the Romanian champion who only got a draw in the first match at home, 1-1 with U Cluj. However, FCSB should be in no mood after their six-goal win over champions San Marino. On the field, on tour, Federico Piovaccari also made an appearance, player who played at FCSB during 2013-2014, when he won the title of champion and the Romanian Cup. The Italian striker announced his retirement from football at the end of the match in Ghencea.

Coaches’ Statements

Elias Charalambous was satisfied with the way his players presented themselves in the away game against Virtus, a team about which he did not have much information.

“We didn’t have much information about Virtus before the Champions League game, but the players were very focused and serious. This proves that the players will give everything on the field, regardless of the opponent we meet. The score is very good and I think it will be enough for the qualification, but let’s not forget that we still have a game to play”, said the FCSB coach, after the 7-1 victory in San Marino.

Luis Bizzotto, the coach of the guests, is aware that his team has very little chance to turn the score around, but he is happy that his students have the opportunity to play at the stadium in Ghencea against a strong team.

“There is definitely satisfaction in playing in a stadium like this against a team like this. It’s definitely an exciting thing for us.

What did we learn from the first match? The team learned a few things we most likely already knew. We met a very strong team with a very good pace compared to what we can carry at the moment. So we will try to do better than in the tour match, even if it will not be easy, because now we are playing in front of their home crowd. So, at least from our side, I can assure you there will be the will to fight. What makes me happy is that even in the previous match, my players, at the score of 0-7, gave everything on the field. They also managed to score a goal, which was really important for us,” said Luigi Bizzotto, the coach of Virtus, on the microphone of RTV San Marino.
