Company representatives they assurethat “the information distributed on the network is not true” and their products meet all the requirements:

  • Marshmallows contain an approved additive – the sugar substitute maltitol, which has a laxative effect only when consumed in excess (all warnings are posted on the packaging and in the description on the website and in the app),
  • The product has passed all scheduled laboratory tests – safety and quality compliance are confirmed.

The chain, however, promised to send new samples for unscheduled testing, although it stressed that the share of product quality complaints – 32 in the last four months – represents less than 0.3% of total purchases.

“We understand that unreliable news in the media has worried our customers, so we have decided to suspend sales of maltitol marshmallows until we receive the results of repeated research – to remove the product from store shelves and from access to online orders,” wrote VkusVill.

Since several outbreaks of botulism due to consumption of prepared foods occurred in the summer (in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod), news of poisonings began to attract more attention. Victims in the capital from low-quality products filed a lawsuit and are now demanding up to 2 million rubles per person from Samokat and Kitchen in the District.
