Volkswagen and Rivian have teamed up and will work together on electric vehicles

Volkswagen and Rivian announced the formation of a new joint company called Rivian and VW Group Technology, LLC, which has already begun operations.

The new company will develop the electrical architecture and software for future electric vehicles from Rivian, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and Scout. The first jointly produced vehicle will be presented in 2027.

At a closed presentation in California, journalists were shown a prototype of a Volkswagen test car with Rivian software, which was created in three months.

Volkswagen will invest $5.8 billion in the joint venture. Rivian and VW Group Technology, LLC will be led by Wassim Bensaid, chief program officer of Rivian, and Carsten Helbing, chief technology officer of the Volkswagen Group. The team will initially be based in California, but the company has already planned to open three new offices in North America and Europe.
