In honor of the special Golf Mk2 Fire and Ice model from 1990.
Volkswagen presented the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE at ID. Meeting gathering in Switzerland. Developed in collaboration with Munich-based luxury sports fashion brand Bogner, the car is reminiscent of the legendary Golf Fire and Ice, which achieved surprise success in the 1990s and has since achieved cult status among fans.
With an exclusive 3-layer finish with a glass bead effect and numerous interior details, the vehicle pays tribute to its predecessor and carries its design idea into the all-electric modern age.
Andreas Mindt, head of design at Volkswagen, points out: ‘With the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE, we emphasize how highly emotional our sports top model is. Our design team had a lot of fun reinterpreting the iconic design from the 90s and developing it further.’
The idea for the vehicle came from technical development workers. As with the Golf Mk2 Fire and Ice, designers from Volkswagen and Bogner worked together. Tom Becker, Director of BOGNER FIRE+ICE, states: ‘The combination of our performance brand FIRE+ICE with the sporty ID.3 GTX is Bogner’s modern interpretation of the iconic Fire and Ice Golf. The special thing is that we managed to integrate many of our original materials and accessories into the interior of the vehicle.’
ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE stands out primarily thanks to its exclusive 3-layer finish with the effect of glass balls. The Electric Violet pearl effect color was specially developed for this unique model and is a reinterpretation of the Golf Mk2 Fire and Ice color. In addition to the dark blue base color, the three-layer paint contains special glass beads, which create a special color effect and extraordinary character.
Depending on the intensity of the light, the color changes from dark blue to purple or even black. The roof frame strip adds a sporty accent with the strong red anodized color Flaming Red. The sides of the vehicle are dominated by foils with a geometric pattern FIRE+ICE (fire and ice) in a transparent matte color.
Another special feature is the 21-inch wheels, which emphasize the dynamic appearance with a blue anodized color with a glossy finish. The original FIRE+ICE logo from the 1990s features the B-pillar and roof spoiler.
The interior is divided into two colors. While the prominent Flaming Red color for ‘FIRE’ predominates on the seats and stitching on the driver’s side and the rear seat, the seats and interior on the passenger side feature Ice Blue (‘ICE’) design elements. The stainless steel gas pedals have a special ‘FIRE+ICE’ design instead of the Play/Pause design known from the ID.
