The Volkswagen ID7 is available with two different battery packs and two different powertrains. The party starts with the 286-hp variants with 77 kWh and at the top are the 340 hp powerful GTX variants with an 86-kWh battery. The Pro S versions are in between. Just like the ‘entry level’ models, they have the 286 hp electric motor, but combine it with the 86 kWh battery of the GTX flavors. The ID7 Pro S has an electric range of 709 kilometers. Last year, Volkswagen sent an ID7 Pro S on a road trip through Switzerland. On an 81 kilometer long course south of Zurich, the ID7 Pro S drove a distance of 794 kilometers without recharging. According to the Germans, that route reflected normal daily use. A Volkswagen ID7 Pro S has now traveled a distance of no less than 941 kilometers without recharging. That is a lot, but there is an important caveat. The Volkswagen ID7 did not cover the distance of 941 kilometers on public roads, but on the Nardò Ring in Italy, a 12.5 kilometer long circular track. According to Volkswagen, it has simulated ‘various traffic scenarios such as rush hour traffic’ on the circuit. Anyway: the average speed was 29 km/h. That’s not very much. The average consumption was 9.2 kWh/100 kilometers.
