Volkswagen is bringing the Scout brand back to life and launching two electric off-roaders

After more than 40 years, the Scout brand returns to the car market. The brand is now managed by the Volkswagen Group, and the new models will go on sale in 2027.

The Scout brand has returned to the modern automotive landscape, more than 40 years since the last model was produced. Under the tutelage of Volkswagen, the brand returns to the market with two new electric models, reports Carscoops.

Scout wants to bring two models to the market, an SUV and a pickup truck, both fully electric. The SUV will be called the Traveller, and the electric van will be known as the Terra. Thus, the Scout will have two models that will rival the Rivian R1T and R1S. In addition, both will also get the option of a range extender drivetrain.

And like its rivals from Rivian, both models share the same design philosophy, with a simple, uniform design for both SUV and van.

As we could expect, the two new Scout models will be available in purely electric versions. However, the manufacturer will also offer range extender variants for Traveler and Terra.

The two all-electric models use two motors, one on each axle, which will deliver more than 1,300 Nm, which will allow the cars to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds.

Both Traveler and Terra use an 800V electric platform, and the manufacturer says the cars will have a maximum range of around 560 kilometers on a single charge.

Scout will also offer versions with range extenders to answer the doubts that customers have about the charging infrastructure of electric cars. This version will be equipped with a small gasoline engine, which will only charge the car’s battery, but will not be connected to the wheels in any way. So the total range increases up to 805 km.
