Volkswagen postpones the launch of new electric models

At Volkswagen, they have problems with the software again. Apparently, it is software developed by Volkswagen’s Cariad, which concerns the SSP (Scalable System Platform) platform. Delays in the project directly resulted in the postponement of the launch of several new products, including the successor to the ID.4 model.

As he states Index.hr, the idea was that SSP-based models would start to be commercialized in 2025, but now that is no longer the case. Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schafer hinted that the first model based on the SSP could be the electric successor to the Golf, which should arrive in 2028.

When it comes to software problems, there are quite high demands placed on designers. Volkswagen wants the new platform to support ultra-fast charging (around 12 minutes) and compatibility with Level 4 autonomous driving systems.

How he finds out Manager Magazine, all this had the effect of delaying the launch of the successor to the ID.4 by 15 months. The same was confirmed by
Handelsblatt calculating that the new model cannot arrive before 2029. This means that the ID.4 presented in 2020 will be nine years old when it gets a successor.

Volkswagen’s SUV model, codenamed T-Sport, will also be delayed and will arrive on the market in 2031 at the earliest. It is realistic to expect that this trend will be copied to other brands of the VW Group. The arrival of the upgraded MEB+ platform, which will be used by the long-awaited ID.2 and ID.1, will somewhat improve the matter.
