German automaker Volkswagen has recalled 114,478 vehicles in the United States due to problems with airbags that could pose a danger to drivers under certain circumstances, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced.
According to reports, the airbags on the driver’s side could explode due to prolonged humidity and high temperatures and endanger his safety, reports CNN.
Some Passat vehicles manufactured from 2012 to 2014, Passat sedans manufactured in 2006 and 2007, Passat wagons from 2017 and some Beetles manufactured between 2017 and 2018 have been recalled.
All buyers of vehicles with potentially unsafe airbags will be notified by December 27, and the company will allow them to replace the driver’s side airbag free of charge at a Volkswagen store, the statement added.
