Anyone who has been following the car news on AutoWeek for some time is undoubtedly familiar with the Volkswagen Atlas and Teramont. In fact, that is just one model, with the Atlas being sold in the United States and the Teramont in China. The Taramont is also available as the Teramont X with a more steeply sloping roofline, a variant that is called the Atlas Cross Sport in the US. With a vehicle length of 5.04 meters, the Atlas/Teramont duo is larger than the Touareg. But not more expensive. Where the Touareg shares its MLB Evo platform with the likes of the Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga, the Atlas and Teramont are based on the cheaper MQB. Until recently, the Teramont and Atlas were almost the largest SUV-like models in that area of modular technology. They only had to tolerate this 5.15 meter (5,152 mm) long Talagon above them. The Chinese joint venture SAIC Volkswagen will soon be launching a new Teramont that will go a little bit further. This is the Volkswagen Teramont Pro. The current Volkswagen Teramont. Volkswagen has not yet unveiled the Teramont Pro itself. AutoWeek has unearthed the photos of the new SUV from the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The plates are digitally accompanied by the first specifications. For example, we know that the Teramont Pro is 5.19 meters long, 1.99 meters long and 1.79 meters high. Its wheelbase is 2.98 meters. The largest MQB model is not the Teramont Pro, because that is the more MPV-like and 5.35 meter long Volkswagen Viloran. The Volkswagen Teramont Pro is expected to remain in the program in China alongside the regular Teramont for a while, but will eventually take over from that now seven-year-old SUV. The platform is not completely new, but the body is. The SUV has recessed handles in the doors and a relatively angular front. There will be versions with and without R-Line optics. We also know that in China at least a 272 hp 2.0 TSI will be available in the SUV.
