On November 14, the first quarterfinal game of the CEWOOD Latvian Cup women’s volleyball tournament took place in the sports hall of the Daugavpils Sports School. The match featured a match between the local team “Daugavpils Sporta skola” (coach Andrei Adamovich) and volleyball players from “RSU/MSĢ”.
Despite the spirit and support of the fans, the Daugavpils team failed to force a fight on their opponents, and the match ended in defeat with a dry score of 0:3.
The return match will take place on November 17 at 15:00 at the home site of “RSU/MSĢ”. To reach the semi-finals, the volleyball players of the Daugavpils Sporta skola team need to win the second match in order to bring the matter to the “golden set” – the decisive period of the game, which is played up to 25 points. This format adds intrigue by allowing one team to have one last opportunity to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
In case of successful performance in the return game, the team will meet with the current holders of the Latvian Cup – volleyball players “RVS/LU”. This team is considered the favorite of the competition, demonstrating confident play over the past seasons.
Please note that the CEWOOD Latvian Cup tournament has undergone changes this year. The traditional Final Four format has been replaced by a series of home-and-away matches, increasing the number of games for each team and increasing competition at all stages. The final matches, including the men’s and women’s finals, will take place on December 14 at the Rimi Olympic Center in Riga. The youth cup finals and beach volleyball competition will also take place on this day.
