Volodin noted that the plots of modern video games contain elements of aggression and violence, as well as propaganda of “values alien to us.” “In January we plan to make a decision on protecting citizens, primarily children, from destructive content,” the deputy promised.
At the end of December, the head of Roskachestvo, Maxim Protasov, announced that the agency would check popular video games for “manipulative mechanics” that are aimed at defrauding players of money. As a result, it is planned to create a methodology for assessing the quality of games.
Earlier, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education, Yana Lantratova, proposed obliging game developers to receive distribution certificates, similar to films. The deputy explained this measure by saying that through games Western countries “introduce attitudes of hatred towards Russia,” promote LGBT* ideology and romanticize violence.
In mid-December, Kommersant learned that a group of senators and deputies had developed a bill that would oblige online platforms such as Steam and GOG to identify users by phone number, through Gosuslugi or the Unified Biometric System.
