After a couple of SUVs and a quirky crossover, Volvo’s next all-electric model will be a sedan. More specifically, the Swedish company today revealed the refreshed XC90 and the new EX90 at a special event in Gothenburg, Sweden, with Volvo also formalizing the launch of the ES90, giving its first teaser photo.
The new model will be purely electric and will replace the S90, and will be positioned against the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE. According to previously leaked information, the ES90 will be based on Geely’s SPA2 platform, the same one used by the EX90 and Polestar 3.
It will have a length of close to 5 meters and a huge wheelbase that reaches 3,102 mm, while it will be offered with both an electric motor – mounted on the rear wheels – and two (one per axle), which will be combined with the 111 battery kWh (useful 107 kWh) carried by the EX90.
Its height is said to be 1,547 mm. and its width is 1,945 mm. The brand’s first electric sedan will weigh about 2,600 kg in the version with two engines (AWD), and about 2,500 kg in the version with one, mounted on the rear axle.
Range is rumored to reach up to 600km on a charge for the RWD version, but this is most likely on the China Test Cycle (CLTC).
The ES90 will be built at a plant owned by Volvo’s parent company Geely in China and has been developed with a focus on that market, where there is significant demand for luxury sedans. However, it will also be sold in other markets, including Europe.
