“Voyage to Freedom, 1821” The new permanent exhibition at the War Museum focusing on the contribution of the Peloponnese to the Greek Revolution –

A new permanent exhibition on the topic of the Greek Revolution in the Peloponnese, was created by the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulou Foundation and TEMES SA. – development agency of Costa Navarino – in collaboration with the Eugenides Foundation. The exhibition “Voyage to Freedom, 1821» will be permanently hosted in a specially designed space at the War Museum.

The cooperation of the agencies is a continuation of the actions carried out in the context of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, which are completed with the creation of the permanent exhibition. The exhibition sheds light on the role of the Peloponnese during the Revolution, as well as in the Naval Battle of Navarino. Combining the use of interactive technology to represent historical information, the exhibition is aimed at visitors of all ages, presenting in an educational and at the same time experiential manner, one of the most important chapters of modern Greek history.

The exhibition includes works and digital exhibits of 3D visualization of the “MORIAS ’21” program – the initiative of the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulos Foundation and TEMES SA, as well as the NAVS project of the Eugenides Foundation – for the highlighting and logistical documentation of of Greek shipbuilding tradition and naval history, through digital & VR exhibits, as well as 3D prints, for the Battle of Navarino. The exhibits were also presented at the exhibition “Run on the waves of the terrible sea. The struggle of 1821 at sea”.

In addition, the exhibition hosts original content from the collections of Costa Navarino and the General Archives of the State. The exhibits give visitors the opportunity to experience the important moments of the Greek Revolution, but also to understand the decisive role that the Peloponnese played in its outcome.

The collaboration of the two Foundations, TEMES S.A. and of the War Museum highlights the value of synergies and comes to strengthen the common goal of bringing our history closer to the present and especially to young people.

This is a new thematic room, in which digital exhibits related to the events of the Greek Revolution in the Peloponnese region will be displayed, using modern media. It has been designed meeting every scientific criterion, while the orientation of the exhibition is purely educational, distinguished by its interactivity and originality. It is certain that the thousands of students, as well as visitors of all ages who come to the museum every year, will get to know aspects of 1821, a key moment in the history of Hellenism, from a new perspective and will perceive the timeless and universal values ​​it symbolizes, like freedom and democracy”.

The scenario of the exhibition is signed by Dr. Sofia Handaka, the architectural design of the space, which will host the exhibition at the War Museum, was carried out by the Architectonofilia office, the digital experience was edited by the Cage company, while the graphic design and editing was undertaken by the Enarte office.

About the War Museumo

MORIAS’21

An initiative of the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulos Foundation and TEMES SA, with strategic partners the Region of Peloponnese and Municipalities of the region. Honoring the 200th anniversary of the start of the Greek Revolution, the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulou Foundation and TEMES SA. have developed from 2021 the MORIAS ’21 program, an initiative for Greeks everywhere to return to the Peloponnese, to live the history of the place where the Struggle for Independence was established, through thematic routes and experiential or interactive experiences focused on History, Art, Gastronomy and Nature. The NAVS project aimed to document and highlight with the help of cutting-edge technologies and impressive interactive digital “experiences” the rich Greek shipbuilding tradition and the great naval history. Starting with the premise that shipbuilding, naval art and seamanship are important chapters in the history of Greece, which is closely intertwined with the sea, the NAVS project placed particular emphasis on the many and varied ships and vessels designed and built over the centuries for different purposes and uses recognizing that these shipyards constitute a large part of the maritime heritage and tradition of our country. For this project, six agencies from Greece cooperated with the Eugenides Foundation as coordinator and the Scientific Responsible National Technical University (NTUA), School of Naval Mechanical Engineering. – Also participating as partners were the University of Western Attica (PADA) / Department of Naval Engineering, the company Green Maritime Technologies (GMT), the University of the Aegean / Laboratory of Maritime and Port Operations Management and the Institute of Technology and Research (ITE) / Institute of Mediterranean Studies ( IMS).
