VW ID.Buzz: Electric loaf with seven seats – Cars

Reinterpretation of the iconic Volkswagen ‘Pão de Forma’ from the 1950s, the VW ID.Buzz adds new updated versions in terms of equipment, software, capacity and more efficient engines with greater autonomy to its range.

With a length of 4,962 meters, the new seven-seat ID.Buzz variant now presented has an extra 25 cm in wheelbase compared to the shorter body of the six-seat version. This additional growth creates space for two more occupants, in a configuration of two in the front, three in the second row and two in the third row of seats (2/3/2), as well as more space for luggage.

In the cabin, with five people on board, the maximum luggage compartment capacity is 1,340 liters, but even with seven people the luggage compartment is still generous – 306 liters. With the second and third row seats fully folded down, the boot volume can be expanded to 2,469 liters.

In the case of the six-seater ID.Buzz, with a body length of 4,712 meters, the interior configuration is 2/2/2 – until now this body variant was only available as a five-seater vehicle.

Motorizations, batteries and software

In addition to the superior capacity, all versions – Pro 6 and Pro 7, as well as the Cargo – are propelled by a new 210 kW (286 hp) electric motor, associated with two new batteries (84 kWh and 91 kWh), which offer electric ranges of, respectively, up to 430 km and 470 km.

With a 91 kWh battery, the seven-seater version is prepared for fast charging of up to 200 kW, making it possible to increase the charge from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes.

The maximum speed is limited to 160 km/h, while acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is now achieved in 7.6 s (6 Seats) and 7.9 s (7 Seats).

At the software level, the ID.Buzz range benefits as standard from a completely new generation of infotainment systems with more intuitive navigation and superior data processing capacity. The system’s touch screen is now 12.9 inches instead of the previous 12.0” (33 cm diagonal instead of 30 cm) and the new IDA voice assistant includes ChatGPT (AI/artificial intelligence) integration.

The model also receives new assistance systems, including Park Assist Pro with a remote parking function via smartphone. The exit warning system is another new feature and warns of approaching motor vehicles and bicycles from the rear when a door is opened.

Extended standard equipment

Among other items, all new ID. Buzz Pro are equipped with two sliding side rear doors, headlights and taillights with LED technology, front camera for driver assistance systems, multifunction steering wheel, lane keeping system, emergency braking system, cruise control, traffic sign recognition, parking sensors, automatic air conditioning and keyless starting system.

A new high-tech panoramic roof with smart glass is available for both versions.

Among the main customization equipment, the new ID.Buzz can count on four bi-color paint combinations, 19”, 20” or 21” wheels or various shades and coverings for the seats and doors.

The ID.Buzz can also include an inductive charger for a cell phone, a head up display, a Harman Kardon sound system with a 700 W subwoofer, ambient lighting with 30 colors, and electrically adjustable front seats, among others.

Falling prices

Despite the update, the new ID. Buzz is cheaper compared to the previous five-seater model. The six-seater version (84 kWh) starts at 60,282 euros (minus 2,000 euros), while the elongated seven-seater version (91 kWh) starts at 62,164 euros (minus 3,000 euros). Now the ID. Buzz Pro Cargo 84 kWh (286 hp) is available from 58,177 euros.

Later, the sportier GTX version will be available with two electric motors, 340 hp and 4Motion all-wheel drive as standard. More exclusive exterior and interior and 1,800 kilos of towable weight.

At the end of the year, the ‘Pure’ version will be released with a 170 hp engine, 63 kWh battery and 330 km of autonomy, which will have an entry price below 50,000 euros.
