W2W joins with GH Bank to upcycle new environmentally friendly uniforms

W2W joins with GH Bank to upcycle new eco-friendly uniforms, aiming for the goal of sustainable banking.

It is believed that everyone wants to wear beautiful clothes that can build self-confidence. As a result, the fashion and textile industry currently has a tendency to grow significantly. However, because the word “fashion” has different trends in each era, many people have to buy new clothes frequently to stay up-to-date, or what is known as Fast Fashion. Each year, more than 10 million tons of clothes end up in landfills as waste, of which less than 10% are recycled.

The problem of clothing waste does not only occur in the midstream or downstream. The upstream process of clothing production also uses a huge amount of water, resulting in the release of an average of 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide per year, or about 10% of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide. Therefore, there has been a drive to change the fashion and textile industry with the concept of Circular Fashion so that the fashion world can be a part of preserving this world as well.

Currently, the sustainability drive in the fashion industry, whether manufacturers or customers, has become more interested and aware of the global warming problem. Wear to Work (W2W) Company, together with the Government Housing Bank (GHB), has changed the new uniforms from recycled plastic fibers, designed by Ek Thongprasert, a W2W designer, under the concept of Digital Hospitality, uniforms that are more than just work clothes but also care about the environment. They also organized a fashion show called GH Bank Uniform Fashion Show By Ek Thongprasert to officially launch the new uniforms that are elegant, comfortable, modern, and suitable for all body shapes. The event was attended by Kamolpop Virapala, Managing Director of the Government Housing Bank, executives, and employees.

W2W is a company that designs and manufactures uniforms for organizations that want to stand out, be luxurious, elegant, and have a unique image with design to make the brand memorable and provide a happy experience for employees. The concept is Happy to Wear, Happy to Work, with Ek Thongprasert, a W2W designer with more than 10 years of experience in uniform design.

The event also included a seminar on the topic of designing the new GH Bank uniforms and sustainability by
Kanjanika Srirattanatrai, Assistant Managing Director of GH Bank, said that from the mission of GH Bank to “make Thai people have homes”, but what GH Bank has looked further than that is sustainability. It has set a goal in the long-term plan for sustainability to become a Sustainable Bank or a sustainable bank that cares for and takes better care of the environment. This is a good opportunity for GH Bank to have the idea of changing the uniform, so it has joined with

W2W designs eco-friendly uniforms by using recycled plastic bottles as materials to make the uniforms.

“When we saw the uniforms designed by W2W, in addition to their modern beauty, the quality is no different from the materials used to make the uniforms in the past because the fabric is comfortable to wear. Therefore, GH Bank has continued the concept by organizing activities for all employees to participate in sustainability by organizing a bottle exchange activity to instill awareness in workers about reusing. It is an easy thing that encourages workers to be a part of saving the world and making our world a better place. In the future, plastic bottles will be collected and recycled into recycled plastic fibers to help take care of the environment,” said GH Bank’s assistant managing director.

The concept of the GH Bank uniform design, Ek Thongprasert, W2W designer, mentioned the promotion of the Digital Hospitality concept because in the present era, GH Bank has entered a new era, is professional, and combines the feeling of welcome that is related to the emotions of people who want to have a home. Therefore, the concept was interpreted as the word Digital, which is the use of the GH Bank logo to create a print pattern. When looking at it, it gives a sense of modernity. As for the word Hospitality, the design of the uniform that allows all employees to wear it with confidence and beauty also reaches the feelings of service recipients who look at the employees wearing it and feel comfortable, not distant, and friendly to the service recipients.

Ek Thongprasert added that the design concept of the set also takes into account sustainability by using fibers from plastic bottles as the main material to help reduce the amount of plastic waste that occurs in large quantities. The suit is a uniform that uses 100% recycled plastic fibers. Other sets also use recycled plastic fibers, but are mixed with Easy Care materials to meet the needs of use, making it easy to clean, not requiring a long time to iron, and reducing the use of electricity as well.

Dr. Jiraphan Wongthongsongwan, an expert in sustainable design and circular fashion design at Chulalongkorn University, has presented an image of circular fashion design that will be a part of reducing carbon footprints. Circular design is linked to every design, whether it is a product or a product. For example, clothing is considered in the fashion and textile industry, which is very important for creating sustainability. Because when clothing is no longer used, it becomes waste and is taken to landfills. Some of it flows into the sea, affecting the underwater ecosystem and marine animals eating it because they think it is food. Finally, it affects humans in fishing and eating seafood. It is something that comes from small human actions that affect the world.

Dr. Jiraphan continued that the GH Bank uniforms are another driving force of environmental concern that does not harm nature because there is a thought process from upstream to downstream in choosing recycled materials that have a long lifespan and beautiful designs. Employees will want to wear them and do not have to change uniforms often. The management of uniforms that the bank can recall is easy because all employees have the same uniforms, using the same materials, allowing each type of part to be separated for proper disposal. This is different from general fashion clothing that is quite difficult to recall and uses different materials. In addition, there may not be any innovations to support recycling clothes into clothing again. This is different from plastic bottles that can be recycled into quality fibers. As a large organization, GH Bank will be able to create a prototype for Economies of Scale so that clothing waste does not end up in landfills, but can also be upcycled into furniture or renewable energy.

Wipaporn Satya-apithan, Managing Director of PJ Garment (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Wear to Work (W2W), said that she was very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Government Housing Bank (GHB) in designing and producing uniforms this time to create a good image for the bank, to make employees confident and happy in their clothes, and to be a part in reducing environmental problems. In the past, W2W has designed uniforms for various organizations such as Viriyah Insurance Public Company Limited, SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited, Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, Dusit D2 Samyan Hotel, etc.
W2W is attentive to tailoring and every step of production with international standard quality, ready to move forward to create a new phenomenon for the uniform industry in Thailand.
