Wandercraft unveils exoskeleton for urban walking

Allowing people with very reduced mobility to walk independently in the street for several hours. This is the project of Wandercraft, a specialist in the design and marketing of robotic exoskeletons.

To this end, the Parisian start-up obtained €25 million in funding from the European Investment Bank at the beginning of April. With this “personal robot”, it aims to go much further than with the Atalante X, which has been on the market since 2019 and is dedicated to the rehabilitation of people with reduced mobility in hospitals. “Our exoskeleton must be able to go around obstacles, enter tight spaces, sit on the train, use the toilet, take public transport…” explains Jean-Louis Constanza, the co-founder of Wandercraft.

A multi-year R&D project, based on the study of the life paths of hundreds of users. And around ten billion simulations. For the time being, the exoskeleton is already capable of fast and multidirectional walking on regular and uneven ground, stepping up and down, and squatting. Wandercraft will now enter a clinical trial phase with the American Food and Drug Administration with a view to marketing it in the next eighteen months.
