Want to make an app? Launch your idea with the advice of one of the winners of the mts app competition!

Branko Basarić comes from Smederevska Palanka and is now a first-year computer science student at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Belgrade. While attending the Palanačka Gymnasium, he was part of a team that competed and achieved success as one of the winners. mts app competition.

Company Telekom Srbija recently launched a new, 14th cycle of the competition for the development of applications for mobile devices, and Branko shared the experiences that his participation in the competition brought him.

“My classmate previously competed in the mts app competition and he encouraged me to apply. He shared his experience with the mts app competition and thus got me interested. I’ve always liked to program and he knew that I could benefit from the competition and that I would like it, so I decided, when the new cycle started, to try my hand at creating an application,” says the young computer scientist.

Branko and his team from Palanačka Gymnasium created an application called “No. 1 Ecologyst” with the aim of drawing attention to the importance of environmental protection. “The point of the game is to have fun and move around the map to clear the space and achieve victory,” explained Basarić.
During the process of programming and creating the application, Branko’s team was provided with useful advice and the necessary help by Sanja Rajić, a professor of informatics at Palanački Gymnasium, through advice and mentoring.

Speaking about his experience, Branko emphasized that the process of working on the application was demanding and challenging, but also useful, since he gained a variety of new knowledge and skills, responsibility and discipline through teamwork.

“If you’ve never experienced working in a team before, that coordination between team members is something great, and yet also a way for everyone to learn responsibility and do their part, so that the end product is good. Learning new things has already helped me at university, especially when I’m learning something for the first time, now I know the best way to master it,” Basarić believes.

When asked how he would describe the entire experience with the mts app competition and the Regional app challenge, as the next level of the competition, he pointed out that the strongest impression on him was the new acquaintances and the successfully overcome challenges, which is why his participation in the competition will remain in his fond memory.

“I would recommend high school students to apply for the mts app competition and at least try to come up with an idea, because according to the rules of the competition, an idea can be submitted, even if the application is not completed in the end. This will improve their creativity, and later, through team work and constant learning, which is difficult, they will acquire knowledge that will be useful for their future life and education,” explained Branko Basarić.

The company Telekom Srbija launched the mts app competition in 2011 with the desire to give talented high school students the opportunity to express their creativity, innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and skills in the digital world through the creation of an application for mobile devices.

The new cycle of the project was launched on October 10, a login is open for future participants until November 27. All registered teams will then have two months to realize the idea and program the application, the goal of which is to bring positive change to the local community and improve communication among its members.

Grammar school students from all over the country participate in the mts app competition, who work according to the program intended for talents in the field of mathematics, informatics and computer science.
