WD expands its offering of SanDisk Extreme portable SSDs

The SanDisk Extreme are one of the series of solutions for external and portable storage best-selling in the industry. WD, along with the launch of the Black SN7100 SSDs, has announced a major update to the series.

Storage products based on NAND flash memories have ended up transferring their great advantages over hard drives from the internal drives that we use in PCs to external ones connected to USB or Thunderbolt. In addition to the increase in performance, they add their mobility capabilities, connecting them to almost any PC and carrying them in a pocket in the case of the most portable units.

A few years ago we had the opportunity to analyze one of the original versions of this series and there we verified that it was one of the most advanced on the market, due to performance, resistance, capacity and small size. All of this is brought together in the update that includes two main solutions.

SanDisk Extreme Portable 8 TB

Ideal for those users or professionals who have to transport large files, backup copies or large content libraries while away from their homes or offices. The unit connects internally to an interface USB 3.2 Gen 2 giving you sequential read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1000 MB/s. Externally, it connects via a USB Type-C connector or via a USB Type-A adapter to increase compatibility of use, both with cables included with the unit.

It is compatible with all major desktop and mobile platforms (iOS and Android) and keeps content private through password protection, featuring 256-bit AES hardware encryption. It has protection against drops of up to three meters and IP65 protection against water and dust. The biggest novelty of the version is the increase in storage capacity up to a stratospheric 8 Tbytes. It is available in SanDisk.com and at select retailers at a price of 663,99 euros. If you don’t need that much, the manufacturer sells the unit in other capacities, from 500 GB for only 99 euros.

New series that debuts the most advanced peripheral connection port interface, USB4, to achieve data transfer at enormous speeds 3,800 MB/s reading and 3,700 MB/s. Exceptional performance for a drive that is aimed at professionals who need maximum performance in a drive that also supports Intel’s Thunderbolt 4 and older USB standards for maximum compatibility.

The unit features a durable silicone case and a forged aluminum chassis to protect it. It is certified with IP65 in a water and dust resistant design. It will be available internationally in early 2025 in storage capacities of 2 and 4 Tbytes with an official price. from 312 euros.
