We “boil” even at night

The heat wave persists in our country in the coming days, while particularly high temperatures are now recorded in many areas, even during the night. The situation is much worse in the big urban centres, with the temperature not even managing to drop below 30°C for many 24-hour periods.

The following maps show the days with a minimum temperature greater than or equal to 30°C from the beginning of July until today, from the records of the meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens network of automatic weather stations.

As you can notice, the stations with the most days are located in the region of Attica and especially in the basin of Attica (Figure 2), there are stations such as in Piraeus, where for 10 consecutive days (from 09/07) the temperature is kept above from 30°C throughout the day (total > 216 hours).

A similar situation in other areas of the Attica basin such as in Nikaia, Neo Kosmos and Nea Smyrni.

Keeping the temperature at high levels even at night is an additional, important factor in increasing the heat burden and the relative risk to human health, especially for vulnerable groups of the population.
