UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against both federations after the Nations League match between Romania and Kosovo, abandoned by the guests on Friday evening, two minutes before the end, reports RMC Sport.

According to Article 55 of UEFA’s Disciplinary Regulations, proceedings are opened by the UEFA administration “when a complaint of a potential disciplinary offense has been lodged, subject to the prior approval of an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector”.

“When a complaint has been filed, an ethics and discipline inspector must evaluate it. The Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector may, at his discretion, decide not to approve the opening of a procedure if there are no valid reasons to do so,” the UEFA text continues.

On Friday evening, some of the Romanian fans chanted “Serbia, Serbia”, and the visiting team’s players left the field and refused to return.

The match was declared “abandoned” by UEFA after about an hour. Serbia, like Romania, never recognized the independence of its former province of Kosovo in 2008.
