Călin Georgescu, the independent who won the 1st round of the 2024 presidential elections, continues the series of interviews, for vloggers and journalists from abroad. The most recent statements, the former UN official made for a former American soldier, television personality, Shawn Ryan.

Georgescu expressed his dissatisfaction with the way political leaders in the West relate to the controversial decision of the CCR, to cancel the presidential elections. Also, the candidate supported by the AUR put forward the scenario according to which NATO could use Romania as a spearhead, in the event of the expansion of the war in Ukraine.

“What’s happening now in Romania and the fact that we don’t have any reaction from outside, especially from the United States, shows that they don’t understand what’s happening here, because if they use Romania as a gateway to war… What’s next? We don’t need war,” declared Georgescu.

The former American military man was concerned about the scenario presented by the independent candidate.

“So this NATO base, to be clear, the largest NATO base ever built in Europe, will be used to conduct a major offensive in Russia,” Ryan commented.

Călin Georgescu replied: “That’s exactly the word – offensive. Which is wrong. We cannot accept this (…) It is not our war”, concluded Georgescu.

Romania will have the largest NATO military base in Europe, the size of a small city, on an area of ​​almost 3,000 hectares. The military base will house 10,000 NATO troops and their families. The investment of more than 2.5 billion euros will include runways, weapons platforms, hangars for military aircraft, but also schools, kindergartens, shops and even a hospital.
