McLaren driver Lando Norris said he was satisfied with his performance and victory in the Formula 1 race for the Singapore Grand Prix.
“It was an amazing race. I had too many tight situations, a couple of small moments in the middle, but I think I controlled it well. The car was mega. We were flying during the whole race and at the end I was able to relax. So the race was nice, tough, a little out of breath, but fun race,” Norris said after the race.
In Singapore, he started from pole position, kept his advantage and achieved his third victory of the season and of his career. He was too close to the barrier on two occasions, but escaped unscathed and finished the race 20 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
“It’s not like I was exaggerating, sometimes that happens when you relax too much. Maybe it was a little bit of both, I don’t know. I didn’t want to have a one-second lead, I wanted the biggest lead I could get,” he said. Norris.
Ferstappen said second position was a good result.
“I was alone there. I tried to do my best and manage my pace until the end. The first period was a little difficult, due to tire degradation, and after that it was better, it was more pleasant. For a weekend that we knew that we will struggle, second place is a good achievement. Of course we are not satisfied with second place. We have to improve, we will try to do that,” he said.
He is still first in the general standings, but Norris has closed the gap to 52 points.
“That can change quickly. We have to keep trying and turn it around at some point and not always finish behind others. We’ll see how it goes,” added the three-time back-to-back world champion.
McLaren driver Oskar Pjastri took third place.
“This was a good race and I recovered well from qualifying. I didn’t have the best afternoon yesterday and to be back on the podium is a great result. We had a really fast car and a good strategy to overtake Mercedes. Thanks to the team, the car was exceptional this weekend.” he said.
