The PNL National Council validating the candidacy of Nicolae Ciucă for the position of President of Romania began on Sunday, in the absence of the PNL President. He was in Slobozia Conachi, the most affected of the communes hit by the floods. Lucian Bode, who opened the meeting, referred to the good electoral score obtained in June this year. “We must respond to the cascading attacks that want to destabilize us by showing unity,” Bode said.
1400 delegates were summoned to Sunday’s National Council, with 1128 delegates present.
The meeting began with the singing of the national anthem and continued with a moment of silence in memory of the four people who died as a result of the floods in Galati.
Within the National Council there are two resolutions, one aimed at the safety of citizens and communities, as a priority for the next mandate, but also a resolution “for the support of national culture and identity”.
The third item on the agenda is the validation of Nicolae Ciucă’s candidacy for the supreme position in the state.
The first speaker at the meeting was Lucian Bode, former Minister of Internal Affairs and Transport. He thanked the liberals “for the extraordinary political performance” achieved in this year’s local elections.
“We have every reason to be confident. (…) We gave a first important test in the June elections, when we obtained a political score of over 30% and showed that the PNL is a strong party, which has the necessary political strength to support Nicolae Ciucă for winning the presidency of Romania. The next few months will be tough. Unity is what will bring us victory. We must respond to the cascading attacks that want to destabilize us by showing our unity. Votes are won with projects, with facts, with achievements, our opponents do not matter in these chapters, they come with promises, with lies, a false image and a lot of gargling. (…) The result that the PNL obtained in June was a surprise for our opponents. It was no surprise for us, because we don’t keep an eye on the polls all day, we do our work in the communities we administer. You can see with the naked eye the difference between the right-wing and left-wing local government”, he said Lucian Bode.
He says that the PNL assumed government in difficult conditions and has the “decency” to carry it out.
