We might already have one of the craziest games of the generation

The software house NEKCOM Games has released a new trailer of over 5 minutes for its next title Showa American Storya post-apocalyptic action RPG set in an America heavily influenced by Japanese culture.

The video shows the settings and some details on the plot of what, for all intents and purposes, seems to be the perfect candidate for “craziest game of the generation“. Showa American Story is currently scheduled for 2025 on PC and PS5.

Showa American Story is billed as an ‘alternative history period drama’

The trailer presents a profoundly transformed America by the economic and cultural influence of Japan, which has become a global superpower. The protagonist Chouko Chigusa, miraculously returned to life after a mysterious “Accident”, he embarks on a motorcycle journey through this alternate scenario in search of his missing sister.

The gameplay seems to blend action RPG elements with adventure-game mechanics classic. Players will be able to explore the environments, interact with various characters and fight using both cold and firearm weapons. NEKCOM describes the title as a “Post-apocalyptic romance RPG” and a “alternate history period drama”.

Although the precise structure of the game is not yet entirely clear, the trailer is quite eloquent as to what it concerns the delirious atmospheres of the gamewhich range from the classic zombie-apocalypse to highly scenic moments that bring to mind the typical cut of some anime.

The trailer is a mix of over the top moments, including rockets piercing creatures, zombie heads used to play golf, blood flowing in rivers and delirious choreographies that seem to have come from the mind of SUDA 51 (which we recommend you catch up on No More Heroes 3).

The developers have confirmed that the PS4 version, originally planned, has been cancelledfocusing efforts on the PC and PS5 editions arriving in 2025, although a precise release date has not yet been confirmed.
