We flew all the way to China, but we managed to get hold of Honor’s top mobile phone, the Magic7 Pro, which will be released here in 2025, for a few days, which has several interesting features.
Honor’s headquarters and production line are located in China, including in Shenzhen, where the Magic family mobile phones are also manufactured. In addition to the bendable Magic V3, the top device of 2024 is the Magic6 Pro, which was released at the beginning of the year, and which we tested at the time of its release. Quite a few months have passed since then, quite a few competitors have appeared, but the mobile phone is still considered high-end and, with its modest price, is considered a good buy. On the other hand, if you don’t really need a new mobile phone, but you like the Honor ecosystem, it might be better to wait another 2 months, because the successor, the Magic7 Pro, will arrive soon. With the mobile Chinese software, it can already be purchased in China without Google, we had the opportunity to test this for a few days.
Similar, but still new
A Honor Magic7 Pro In the case of The frame has become flatter, which makes it easier to hold the device, but the display is still not completely flat, it bends slightly on the sides and the rounded corners remain. You won’t really find coffee either at the bottom or at the top, the 6.8″ LTPO OLED display (which, by the way, is capable of 5000 nit peak brightness) is only broken by the capsule-shaped selfie cutout. The display is protected from scratches by Rhino Glass, which also latest development, and Honor has even covered it with an extra foil, as is its good habit, so you don’t have to rush to the foiling machine immediately if you want full protection you want
There are no changes in terms of buttons and connectors, the IP68+IP69 rating is given (the phone can also withstand hot water jets), but the camera system has been transformed. The respectable, round camera island located at the top, in the middle, still holds 3 cameras, the fourth camera hole is a depth sensor. The 50 MP, variable aperture, Super Dynamic Falcon H9000 sensor (presumably OmniVision) main camera is complemented by a 200 MP periscope zoom camera, which offers 3x magnification and a very large 1/1.4″ Samsung sensor. In addition, there is also a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle copy, which is 122 degrees. it provides a viewing angle with autofocus, so it can also be used for macro photography.
It is a common practice that the Magic Pro model always gets the current best SoC, and this is no different. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip roars at a dizzying pace, coupled with 12-16 GB of RAM and 256/512/1024 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Wi-Fi 7, dual SIM, eSIM, 5G, BT 5.4, full GPS, NFC, aptX HD are all clear services, and you can use an infrared port as an extra. We have not yet received confirmation as to whether satellite calls and messages will be available in our country, but it is a fact that the mobile phone is also capable of this.
Another important parameter is the battery, which is once again the advanced, now 3rd generation silicon-carbon (SiC) based solution. Thanks to this, despite its small size and weight, it has a capacity of 5850 mAh, and it can be charged lightning fast: 100 Watts with a cable, 80 Watts without a cord. In the Chinese version, the corresponding charging head was also in the box, presumably it will not be found here (as well as the case).
You don’t have to prepare for disappointment
During the several-day test, we took a lot of photos with the soon-to-be-available Magic7 Pro, and we also tried to get the fluff out of it. We did not have any problems with the Google GMS ecosystem here, but of course there is no question that full Google support will be available on the models we receive. We ran the AnTuTu test several times, and the result exceeded 2.7 million, which is extraordinary, far surpassing its predecessors and most of its competitors. We also tried to observe the warming, and here we were not so thrilled. During full load, the phone became noticeably warm, but of course the back panel did not burn. As a basis for comparison, we can mention the Magic6 Pro, which has one of the best cooling systems to date (and maybe even the ASUS ROG Phones), and we observed lower heating and throttling there. We hope that the slowdown will be minimal in the case of the Magic7 Pro as well.
Next up is AI
We would have been surprised if AI didn’t get one of the most important roles for the Magic7 Pro. Honor has separated the AI functions and tries to do everything possible locally on the device. This includes, for example, improving and sharpening photos. If you stay within 30× magnification, the image sharpening and noise reduction is performed entirely by the mobile, it does not “ask for help” from the Google Cloud service.
Of course, the Magic7 Pro already comes with the latest Android 15 OS, on which Honor installed MagicOS 9.0. The already familiar AI functions, such as the Assistant, post-improvement of images (e.g. magic eraser), AI suggestions, Magic text, control with hand gestures will all remain, and the Magic Portal will receive a thorough wrinkle repair and return with 2.0 numbering. For AI functions that require more serious background knowledge, Honor also relies on the Google Cloud solution, but there was no mention, for example, that this would become paid at any time in the future. On the other hand, we managed to ask the developers about how cloud data sharing works, and we also asked for an answer as to whether the photos enhanced with AI are somehow marked by the mobile phone, so that it is clear afterwards that what we see on the display is what the AI ”approached” “.
In the case of Honor mobiles, uploading to the cloud required for AI calculations takes place in such a way that the specified data is only uploaded to the cloud for the duration of the operation, it is deleted immediately after the calculation is completed, neither Honor nor Google use this data for training. The answer to our other question was a clear no, i.e. even though the mobile or cloud-based solution improves the view of the final image, it does not mark it with an AI indicator.
Another practical use of AI is in security. In addition to the various blocked apps and workspaces, the Fraud Protection and Blocking Fake Mobile Towers points also sound exciting. In the case of the former, the mobile not only recognizes and blocks fraudulent calls and SMS, but also detects deepfakes. This means that the phone will also alert you in the event of a video call with a fake face.
Regarding the other function, we don’t know exactly whether it will be available on the Magic7 Pro sold in our country, in any case, it sounds interesting that the phone detects if it is disguised as your service provider, but is actually connected to a fake cell tower, which is suitable for data theft and sending unsolicited ads.
And if it’s AI, the fun can’t be left out either. MagicAvatar is a virtual person that you can shape in detail. Once you’re done with it, you can set it as wallpaper, lock screen, etc. As soon as you have done this, the avatar greets you with different gestures each time, and when you activate it, it also imitates your facial expressions: smile, wink, sad, etc.
This will be the new Magic
The speed is absolutely top class in the case of the Magic7 Pro and it also seems that MagicOS 9.0 does not bring too many changes, but AI is clearly more emphasized. The display is extremely bright, can be seen wonderfully even in sunlight, and the operating time is still expected to be above average. You can also expect top quality when it comes to photography and videography, and you can easily see this from the images in our gallery. It is also worth highlighting the sound, which has been audibly improved, so it sounds louder than ever at full volume, while not distorting.
It can be yours soon
We don’t have to sleep much until the domestic launch of the Honor Magic7 Pro, the European version will also arrive with GMS on board at the beginning of 2025. Software support is expected to last 4-5 years, which is plenty, especially since it starts with Android 15. We don’t know anything about the prices yet, but it is certain that the new Magic mobile will be available from several service providers.
