Every month, Auto Plus invites you to discover the truth about models dissected by the expert lab. Consumption, habitability, performance, here are the real figures for the Toyota C-HR without any tongue in cheek!
At Auto Plus, we like to do things our way. To do this, we carry out our measurements in our lab, and have done so independently since the beginning of the magazine. It’s our expert Frédérique Haas who is doing it, and he leaves nothing to chance! In his box, he measures and analyzes all the cars with his dedicated instruments. It simultaneously records the real consumption levels, measures the habitability dimensions on board, and fills the trunk with polystyrene balls to calculate the real volume, for example.
Our expert also transcribes all the data relating to the velocity of the models under test, measured on the ring of the Linas Montlhéry autodrome (91). He tries the exercise from 0 to 100 km/h, it measures the maximum speed, the engine’s acceleration in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear, or even the noise volume on the motorway for example, without forgetting emergency braking. Thanks to these batteries of independent technical tests, the laboratory. finally disentangles the true from the false Today, it is the turn of the highly anticipated Renault 5 E-tech in Iconic finish to pass under the watchful eye of Frédéric Haas.
The interior and exterior dimensions of the R5
Concerning dimensions, the Renault 5 E-Tech is very imposing for a city car. If it is quite short, at 3 meters 93 in length, in width it still measures 1 meter 81. On this last characteristic, it can be as “big” as urban SUVs. In height, it measures 1.50 meters, and finally, on the scale, the R5 weighs 1,460 kg. At the front, in our iconic finish, the first thing that catches the eye is the mustard yellow color of the interior. It can be difficult for some, but has a real charm for others. The Renault 5 still presents well, with its foamed dashboard in front of the passenger and its OpenR Link technology made up of two 10-inch screens, operated by Google.
At the rear, even if the electric city car is approved to accommodate three people on the bench, in reality, it will be a real feat. With the front seat adjusted to the standard position, we have 68 cm of legroom, a height of 92 cm from the bench to the ceiling light and only 136 cm of elbow room. In terms of storage volume reserved for the trunk, it is one of the best in the electric city car category. It was measured at 310 L. A space under the floor has been provided to store the charging cables.
Under the hood, the model is playful!
Our model of the day features the electric engine derived from the Renault Scénic E-Tech and the Mégane E-Tech. It has a total power of 150 hp. The maximum torque is 245 Nm. On the road, thanks to its large 51 kW battery, this R5 and its engine promise one of the best ranges in the segment. On the road, the city car can travel up to 350 km on a single charge. If it only travels on the highway it will be 250 km. And in the city, its favorite playground, the R5 can cover 355 km.
All of this gives us an average range of 320 km. In terms of performance, the 150 hp engine is more than sufficient. 0 to 100 km is done in 8.7 seconds which is very correct. And on expressways, the recovery is invigorating. 80-120 km/h is completed in 5.6 seconds, which allows overtaking without too much hassle. On the other hand, the maximum speed is limited to 151 km/h. Finally, the soundproofing on board is correct, with a sound volume of 69.4 dB at 130 km/h.
The price of the Renault 5 E-Tech
The call price of the Renault 5 E-Tech is €25,000. This is the amount excluding the ecological bonus for the special five version, with the small 40 kWh battery and the 95 hp engine. The urban autonomy range with the 120 hp engine starts at €27,990. With our 150 hp engine and the large battery, the R5 comfort autonomy range starts at €33,490. And this, in techno finish. As for our test model with its iconic finish, it is priced excluding options at €35,490. Ecological bonus deducted, it is therefore billed €31,490 excluding options.
If you would like to find laboratory measurements on hundreds of cars, we invite you to visit the newsstands every Friday, the release day of the new issue of Auto Plus.
