“We want to have a smooth and polite relationship with everyone”

WaterlooOriol Junqueras is already in the House of the Republic meeting with Carles Puigdemont. The first meeting since the two leaders of the 1-O lead their parties again has raised great expectations, but the president of Esquerra has wanted to lower the souffle on his arrival in Waterloo. In statements to the journalists who were waiting for him, Junqueras framed his trip to Belgium in the will of the new leadership of the Republicans to “have the best possible relations with the group of social, economic and political agents”.

“Our desire is to have a fluid and polite relationship with everyone, and for it to be as productive as possible for the benefit of Catalonia,” he said, putting the meeting with the Puigdemonts on the same level as those he held this Wednesday with parties such as Bildu, the BNG and Commitment to the European Parliament. “We talk together as we talk with other people, and with the will to build the best possible agreements for our country,” he said. “We are convinced that we can have the best possible relations with all the agents and it is clear that Junts is part of this set of agents”, he added.

Puigdemont went out to receive his former vice-president and they allowed themselves to be photographed for a few moments at the door of the House of the Republic, where Junqueras arrived accompanied by the new secretary general of the Left, Elisenda Alamany. On behalf of Junts, the general secretary of Juntaire, Jordi Turull, was also present at the meeting, who on his arrival avoided answering questions from the media. The meeting is not expected to last long and neither side has made any progress on what topics they will discuss. However, they hold the meeting just on the same day that the PSOE must decide whether to definitively veto the question of confidence that Puigdemont requested against the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez.
