A Christmas tree in the background. Children’s cries in the background. In the parents’ living room, located in the town of Pabu (Brittany), routine seems to have returned to normal. However, a month before, the family’s life had been turned upside down. On November 25, their daughter Morgane, 13, was reported missing. Before being found safe and sound two weeks later, on December 10. For the first time, the family finally reunited shares its relief, in an interview granted to Telegrame this Saturday, December 28. “We’re starting to go back down. It was very complicated at the beginning. We’re starting to get back to normal life.”whispers the father, taxi driver. Morgane assures her: “It’s okay, I’m okay.”
During these two weeks, the teenager was a two and a half hour drive from her home, in Coutances (Manche), staying with a 21-year-old man she met on the social network Snapchat. The latter is today indicted and imprisoned for stealing a minor and rape. A subject that the parents and their daughter do not mention during their interview. “Our feeling is that it’s not normal for a 21-year-old to be in groups of 13-year-olds”they soberly underline. Before specifying: “Now we will let justice do its work. We became civil parties.”
To investigators, the twenty-year-old jeweler reported that he had come to pick up the young girl by car from her home. The suspect, who initially denied any sexual relations, finally claimed during a final hearing to have had “a sexual relationship” with Morgana, “on one occasion and agreed according to him”. According to him, the 4th grade student had contacted him on Snapchat telling him about an altercation with his parents and “suicidal intentions”.
Morgane had argued with her family about her use of social networks. His father had broken his phone and confiscated his SIM card. “The broken phone was the trigger for her departure but, beforehand, Morgane had been bothered by several people during the day”now emphasizes the mother.
“I tried to contact people on TikTok”
Long days of silence then followed. And anguish for loved ones. “At first, we say to ourselves that it must not be very far away. The more the days pass, with everything that has been done to find her, the more we worry.underlines the father. On several occasions, hunts are organized and volunteers come to help. “All these people who expressed their support and solidarity, it touches us”thanks the couple today.
Finally, on December 10, the parents were summoned to the gendarmerie. The news falls in the company commander’s office: Morgane has been found, alive. “I asked him to say it twice because I didn’t believe it. For two weeks, we had been in robot mode, imagining the worst”sighs his mother again, relieved.
After spending the holidays with family and seeing loved ones again, Morgane has recently returned to the course of her life. She has plans, such as returning to dance or passing the qualifications to become a ball girl at Roland-Garros. On the period of her disappearance, on her follow-up since, on the other hand, she speaks little. She just reports having followed the information on the computer of the man who hosted her. “I tried to contact people on TikTok. That was the only app he didn’t have. I realized that if I sent a message differently, he saw it”she remembers. From now on, she no longer has access to social networks. And to remark: “That makes me strange because, before, I was connected 24 hours a day.”
