We will resolve the war with an agreement, Trump said after meeting with Zelensky

New York – After today’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, former US President and current Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, said that if he comes back to power, he will want to resolve the war in Ukraine with a fair agreement. According to press agencies, he said that he wants to work with Russia and Ukraine on this. Zelenskyy said before the meeting that he agrees with Trump that the war must end and that Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot win. He called the meeting, which lasted about 40 minutes, very productive; according to Trump it was very good.

“This war should never have happened, but we will solve it,” Trump said after the meeting with Zelensky, according to AFP. He added that he wants to negotiate a “fair deal for everyone”. “He wants a fair exchange to take place,” he said to Zelensky.

“A just peace is needed,” said Zelensky after the meeting, who described the meeting as very productive. “We discussed in detail the situation in Ukraine and the effects of the war on our people,” stated On the X network, Zelensky thanked the ex-president for dealing with him. “I think we share the opinion that the war in Ukraine must be stopped and that Putin cannot win,” Zelenskyy said before the meeting with the former head of the White House. After the interview, he said it was necessary to put pressure on Putin to stop the war. “He (Putin) is on our territory. That’s the most important thing to understand,” Zelenskyy said.

Even before the meeting, Trump said that he wanted to work with Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict. If he is elected president, he intends to initiate such negotiations even before he takes office. The US presidential election is in November and the inauguration will be in January. “We have a very good relationship (with Zelensky) and I, as you know, have a very good relationship with President Putin,” Trump noted.

He also stated that it was an honor for him to negotiate with Zelensky. Just a few days ago, however, he called the Ukrainian president a businessman who goes to Washington for money and a politician who refuses to sign an agreement to end the war, which only leads to more deaths and the destruction of Ukraine. In an interview with The New York Times this week, Zelensky indicated that Trump does not understand the war in Ukraine and underestimates its importance.

Trump repeats that if elected, he will quickly end the war in Ukraine. At the same time, he opposes the policy of the current administration of President Joe Biden, which provides Ukraine with very important aid for its defense. However, he does not mention any specific steps, apart from starting negotiations with Russia.

In mid-September, Republican Vice President JD Vance statedthat a demarcation line could be established between Ukraine and Russia and a demilitarized zone could be declared on Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia. According to Vance, it would be appropriate to promise that Ukraine will not join the North Atlantic Alliance or conclude another type of military pact with NATO. Zelensky rejected this procedure in an interview with The New York Times.

Zelenskyi flew to the United States for the session of the UN General Assembly. On Thursday, he held talks with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running in the November presidential election. This week, the US administration announced new aid to Ukraine in the amount of eight billion dollars (CZK 80 billion). The first deliveries of glide bombs with a range of up to 130 kilometers are part of the new aid package. According to diary The Times, however, Zelenskyi did not get permission from the White House to use American weapons for strikes in the Russian rear, which he sought. Republicans have also been highly critical of Zelensky’s visit to a munitions plant in Pennsylvania, where he was accompanied only by Democratic politicians.
