In addition to Black Friday, Amazon has another discount festival: Prime Day, although that now lasts two days. Only for Prime members and with big discounts – but not every discount is equally sharp and not every product is equally good. We would buy these things.
Please note: Prime Day discounts are only valid on July 16 and 17, and may only be valid for a few hours. We’ve gone through the gadget discounts and listed the things that are currently really the cheapest at Amazon. But it can always pay off to check whether you’re actually getting a discount: a competitor may have already undercut the price again. NB: Bright doesn’t make any money from these recommendations; this list is purely editorial. Some things are actually cheaper – here’s what we at Bright think is worth it:
Apple AirPods Pro 2 met usb-c cost 222 euros during Prime Days, and that is not cheaper anywhere. For a tenner more you can also get them elsewhere, most stores ask around 250 euros for these earbuds and Apple itself still 279 euros. These AirPods Pro 2 are still among the best wireless earbuds thanks to the H2 chip: sublime sound, great noise suppression with a smart dynamic option that only filters out noise and regular new features via updates.
AirPods Max cost in blue now 512 euros at Amazon and that is also cheaper than elsewhere, where the headphones cost an average of around 540-550 euros. It dates back to 2020 but it still holds its own thanks to excellent noise cancellation and great sound, especially if you listen to Dolby Atmos music via Apple Music. Or you connect it to your Apple TV. Note: this still only has Lightning, a version with usb-c is rumored to be expected later this year. Other colors are a bit more expensive at Amazon, and therefore less competitively priced.
Apple Pencil 2e generatie now costs only 99 euros at Amazon, elsewhere quickly 120, 130 or even 150 euros. Note: this Apple Pencil does not work with the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air, but it does work with the iPad Pro of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th generation, the iPad Air of the 4th and 5th generation and the iPad mini of the 6th generation. Wirelessly rechargeable and magnetically attaches to the side of the iPad, pressure and tilt sensitive.
Ring doorbells are also heavily discounted. Logically, because they are from Amazon itself, but that does not make the discount any less. On the older Ring Video Doorbell 2nd Generation you get a 50 percent discount and then you only pay 50 euros for the bell. Would you rather have the latest Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2then you pay 150 instead of 230 euros. And so on almost everything from Ring there is quickly a 35 to 50 percent discount.
Bose QuietComfort UltraBose’s showpiece currently costs 339.95 euros at Amazon, while prices elsewhere are approaching 400 euros. It’s Bose, so the noise cancellation is top-notch, the sound is strong and the transparency mode is also good: most headphones transmit outside noise too loudly or too softly. And it’s not called comfort for nothing: these headphones are comfortable, even for people who wear glasses.
Nintendo Switch OLED is now €279 at Amazon, €320 elsewhere. This is the best version of the Nintendo Switch: the OLED screen displays games significantly more colorfully than the first version of the Switch with LCD screen. On the one hand: the Switch will probably get a successor within a year. On the other hand: Nintendo will continue to release Switch games in the coming months and if you don’t have a Switch yet, you have an incredible amount of games to catch up on.
Samsung SSD 990 PROdramatically expand the storage of your PlayStation 5 or gaming PC with this fast SSD. The memory is just as fast as the built-in memory of your PS5, so you after installation can simply install double or triple as many games as before. For 1TB you now pay 123.30 euros, for 2TB 160 euros, elsewhere that is quickly fifty euros more.
WD_Black C50for expanding the storage of your Xbox Series X|S. Simply plug it in and everything will work just as fast as from the built-in storage. Now 108 euros for 1TB, elsewhere it quickly costs 150 euros or more.
Nuki Smart Lock 4.0 Proone of our favorite smart locks. Nuki works with most smart home systems such as those from Apple and Google and is easy to mount on top of many existing, dumb locks. In black and white, now with a 25 percent discount for 216 euros.
Anker USB-C-wandoplader van 67 Wa compact charger from Anker that’s powerful enough for everything from smartphones and tablets to mid-sized laptops. In white or black, now for 20 bucks.
Other tips
There are still a lot of products that are actually cheaper at Amazon today than at other stores. We came across a lot of LEGO sets: normally not cheap but now at Amazon they are. These are mainly the LEGO sets that are more aimed at adults. And also a lot of games for all game consoles can be found cheap at Amazon today – but don’t forget to check the digital version, it could be cheaper or just as expensive.
