weakened by standards?

Porsche has just presented the restyling of its 992 GT3, a model that continues to fight the norms to offer one of the most exciting engines on the market. But at what cost?

Will the year 2025 get the better of the Porsche 911? Not yet, because the Stuttgart sports car returns for a restyling of the 992 GT3, the famous phase 2 which is normally supposed to bring some improvements compared to phase 1.

But in the case of the GT3, the car seems to have reached a form of apogee, and European standards will undoubtedly gradually make one of the most sensational cars on the current automobile market indigestible. We explain why.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 compared to the “old” one

Let’s get straight to the heart of the matter and talk numbers. As a reminder, the 992.1 GT3, released three years ago, develops 510 hp and 470 Nm of torque for a weight of 1418 kg. Enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds with the PDK gearbox, or 3.9 seconds with the manual gearbox. The car can reach 320 km/h in manual gearbox and 318 km/h in PDK, around 20 km/h more than the formidable 992.1 GT3 RS. It cost, in France, 196,554 euros, without the penalty of 60,000 euros and without the few options. In other words, you had to spend at least 270,000 euros to afford it.
The new 992.2 GT3 obviously still has a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six, but no increase in power on the program, since the car still points at 510 ch. On the other hand, and this is more surprising (actually no, not really), it loses 20 Nm of torque while gaining two kilos on the scale and weighing 1,420 kg. 0 to 100 km/h requires 3.4 seconds with PDK box and 3.9 seconds in manual transmission, and the maximum speed is claimed at 313 km/h in manual gearbox and 311 km/h in PDK. The car now costs 212 000 eurosan increase of almost 15,500 euros. With the penalty of 70,000 euros in 2025 and some options, the car will therefore exceed 300,000 euros in France.

Several technical changes to the program

Obviously, this small regression is not the will of the engineers, but rather that of the legislator. To maintain the same levels of performance, they had to open two catalysts to reach the number of four, which should not be forgotten: two particle filters and new elements for car safety standards, particularly for side crashes. .
The engine is therefore converted to that of the 992.1 GT3 RSwith the same camshaft sound that makes it angrier at high revshence the loss of 20 Nm, like the RS. The engineers also shortened the gear ratio by 8%, good news for the sensations, as the ratios could be long on the “old” ones. The downside, however, is the reduced top speed.
As is often the case with GT3s in phase 2, they recover quite a few elements from phase 1 RS. In the case of the 992.2 GT3, it takes its more aerodynamic suspension arms. The car comes with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, but other tires from other brands are also available, including even more efficient semi-slicks.

The Weissanch Pack for the first time on the GT3

As for the aesthetic part, developments are more consensual. From the outset, the car is now offered with the famous Touring pack, without the swan neck spoiler, but with a small “Gurney flap” which allows the small movable spoiler to come out at 120 km/h compared to 85 before. The optics of the daytime running lights and indicators have been grouped together, the spoiler is (a little) new, just like the diffuser, while a longitudinal carbon strip is showing the tip of its nose.
Those who have opted for the Weissach Pack, for the first time available on a GT3 not RSwill be entitled to numerous carbon elements such as the roof and anti-roll bars, all for 18,228 euros, not counting the carbon roll cage at 4,600 euros. And to further inflate the bill, the Touring can also be entitled to a Leichtbau or Lightweight pack at 34,152 euros with beautiful magnesium rims which save 9 kg on unsprung masses. Good news also for fathers or mothers, the optional arrival of four seats on the GT3 Touring.

Orders will open at the end of the year at the prices indicated above in the article. Is this the last atmospheric GT3 in history? It seems like we repeat it every time a new 911 comes out, but this one really looks like it.
