Wear OS 5.1 is based on Android 15, but it will not support a new feature

In August, evidence leaked that Google was probably working on a new version of Wear OSits Android-based wearable operating system that powers various smartwatches, including its Pixel watch line.

In a official post for developersnow Google announces Wear OS 5.1 and explains how it could change the behavior of some apps thanks to its update to Android 15. Wear OS 5 is in fact based on Android 14., therefore Google encourages developers to run this new version in the Android emulator to make sure their apps work as expected.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be an OS version available for any watch hardware, but Google will likely make it available for Pixel Watch 3. One of the least favorite aspects of Wear OS 5.1 so far is that the lack of support for “Private Space”. The functionality “Private space” has been implemented on smartphones and tablets with the Android 15 version.

However, it was quickly discovered that phones running Android 15 that have a Wear OS watch connected to them would have issues with app notifications in the private space. So it will be necessary for now wait and see what else will change between now and the stable launch of this operating system.
