You might certainly be tempted to buy the first one that comes along, but you don’t want your precious phone to crash to the ground at the slightest passage on a sidewalk or a paved road… Whether you use a muscle bike, an electric cargo bike, a VTC or even a mountain bike, there is the ideal support somewhere for you.

Quad Lock: the best smartphone holder for bikes

Quad Lock is a well-known brand in the cycling community and a must-have in the field of smartphone holders. The principle is based on a special phone case, which itself clips onto a support to be fixed on the stem or the handlebars of the bike. To install the phone, simply rotate it 45 degrees. To remove it, you must perform the same movement by pressing the locking lever.

At Quad Lock, you have the choice. First option: you opt for a dedicated shell, which is the ideal solution. In this case, your smartphone must be an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel or Huawei. Quad Lock does not offer a case for other brands. Quad Lock thinks of everything since recent iPhone cases are compatible with MagSafe.

Second option (essential if you have a Xiaomi, Motorola, Honor, Realme, etc. smartphone): opt for the universal adapter. This is a small module that sticks to the back of the phone or its case. Clever, at first glance… except that it is clearly specified that the module’s adhesive does not adhere to certain materials, including TPU, TPE, silicone, leather… which de facto excludes most cases. Want to stick it directly on your phone? It’s possible, provided the back of it is plastic. If it is hydrophobic coated glass, that is not compatible either. Another point to note, the adhesive is not reusable, so if you change your case or phone, you will have to go back to checkout.

A small transparent silicone protective cover to protect against rain and splashes can be added for 10 euros. Afterwards, simply place it on the phone screen as desired, like a case.

Concerning the supports, there are three types to choose from. THE basic support can be adapted to the handlebars or stem, on handlebars from 25 to 40 mm in diameter. THE elongated support and the pro elongated support They attach to the handlebars only. They are also particularly recommended for mountain bikes, which often have a shorter stem than city bikes.

Decathlon Triban support: simplicity

Triban is a range of bicycles from Decathlon, which also produces accessories. If you’re looking for a simple, yet reliable cell phone holder, this metal model is a good option. It’s simply a flat base with four adjustable legs that hold the phone. It is compatible with all smartphones and 22.2/25.4/31.8 mm handlebars, and can be installed in portrait or landscape mode, as desired. This will be a very good solution for those who own a large smartphone. The legs tighten via a wheel system.

Of course, give up any waterproofing here, the phone will not be protected from rain or splashes. However, it turns out to be particularly robust and the stability is there. We still advise you to regularly check that the screw is still tight on the handlebars.

Decathlon Btwin 500 support: the waterproof and inexpensive phone holder

If you don’t want to take the hassle, don’t need a “pro” solution and don’t want to invest thousands and cents, the basic Btwin 500 model is a good option. It’s simply a sort of flexible, waterproof pouch that attaches to the frame. Please note, this can only fit the bike stem, not the handlebars.

A small foam support is placed on the back to reduce vibrations between the frame and the smartphone. This pouch is adaptable to all types of stems. As for the phone, it must not exceed 8 cm in width and 16 cm in length. Some large 6.7-inch smartphones, such as a Pixel 7 Pro, for example, may be slightly longer, so be sure to check the dimensions of your phone.

Still, the waterproof pouch is very practical so as not to be caught off guard by a downpour. On the other hand, reflections from the plastic can slightly deteriorate the readability of the screen, and using the touch screen will obviously be less easy.

Haslaky phone holder: another type of phone holder

Still in the vein of inexpensive solutions, Amazon offers a plethora of cell phone holders.

The manufacturer Haslaky offers a solution that is a little different from what Decathlon does. Installation, first of all, is very easy, with a simple silicone loop (a bit like a watch strap, ultimately), which must be tightened around the handlebars (18 to 35 mm handlebars) to hold the base of the support. No tools are therefore required, and everything is fixed in seconds. The rest of the operation is a little similar to the principle of Quad Lock, since you have to add an accessory to the smartphone to then clip it. Here, it is not a case, but some sort of silicone straps. These grip the phone at the top and bottom, and are elastic, which allows a model up to 6.8 inches to be placed there. Simple, effective, but don’t plan to go cross-country with it either.

Beeline Velo 2: a compass on your handlebars

If you don’t want your phone installed on your bike, and prefer it to stay warm in your pocket, there is an alternative to be able to follow your route: the Beeline Velo 2 GPS computer, to be installed on the frame . It does not itself include GPS: it needs to be connected to your smartphone, via the Beeline application. This is very well done and complete: you plan your route, according to your preferences, and the directions are directly transmitted to the small Beeline Velo 2, which is in the form of a very discreet circular screen. While pedaling, you benefit from simple and clear indications, with a simple arrow, not to mention that the object warns you by beeping when you need to change direction. A compass mode, which simply shows you the overall direction of your destination, is also available.

The Beeline Velo 2 benefits from excellent battery life and is simply recharged via USB-C. The only downside is that it is not cheap since you will have to pay around 110 euros.

Where to put your cell phone when cycling?

If you don’t want to invest in a cell phone holder like the ones presented here, you won’t have a thousand solutions. Your phone won’t be able to be attached to your bike any other way, unless you’re a stickler and want to see your phone crash to the ground. In the absence of dedicated support, your tactile companion will have to be stored in a bag, in the pocket of your pants or your jacket. Be careful with open pockets, otherwise you risk arriving at your destination without your phone.

Which mountain bike phone holder to choose?

If you are mountain biking, there is a good chance that your bike will be shaken, between uneven terrain, bumps, even jumps. You will therefore need foolproof support to be able to use your phone. Is it allowed to use your phone while cycling?
