The Geely group is a major player in the Chinese car market: let’s review the different brands marketed by the Chinese giant.
The rise of electric vehicles in the world has allowed the arrival in our countries of new Chinese manufacturers, most of which were unknown to European motorists until now. However, the industrial groups behind these brands have a long history, with ambitious projects in the automotive sector. Let’s take a look at the Geely Group brands.
Geely: a powerful Chinese manufacturer
Founded in 1986 and based in Hangzhou, China, the Geely group was initially invested in the household appliance industry, before launching into the automobile industry in 1997with the arrival of the brand Geely AutoOver the years, the company grew in importance and rose to become the leading private manufacturer in China. Geely then distinguished itself through acquisitions and stakes in major automobile manufacturers, such as Volvo, Polestar, The London Electric Vehicle Company, Lotusor Smart more recently.
After having advanced in the shadow of these big European brands, the Geely group is now emancipating itself with the launch of new brands, starting with Lynk & Co in 2016, which bases its business model on the rental and sharing of its cars. Geely is also investing in the VTC segment with the brand A little highand also owns shares in Maplewhich later became Lebanona manufacturer specializing in low-cost cars.
Geely Group Brands
In the commercial vehicle segment, Geely will launch the brand in Europe Phariseespecializing in electric utility vehicles, with a new van called SuperVan. The group also recently launched the brand Auto Radardedicated to electric outdoor recreational vehicles, such as the innovative RD6 pick-up based on Volvo’s modular SEA platform.
Other brands of the Geely group include: Geometry : a generalist brand of 100% electric vehicles, which offers several models such as the Panda Mini EV micro-city car or the EX3 compact SUV.
More premium, the sub-brand Galaxy Geely has been raising the bar for quality, technology and user experience, with the introduction of the Galaxy L7 plug-in hybrid SUV last year, featuring Geely’s Aegis battery safety system and smart in-car technologies. More recently, Geely unveiled the Galaxy E8, an all-electric sedan that competes with the BYD Han.
Finally, the brand Seaweed is positioning itself in the premium vehicle segment and is focusing on its on-board technologies. The brand is already present in Europe, and plans to launch seven new models by 2026, in addition to the Zeekr 007 sedan and the Zeekr 001 shooting brake. In parallel, Ji Yue is another Geely brand that also focuses on smart mobility, as evidenced by the Ji Yue 01, an electric SUV designed in collaboration with Baidu, or the Ji Yue 07 sedan based on Volvo’s SEA platform.
