What brings the first foldable from Xiaomi

Originally announced last year in July, Xiaomi’s Mix Flip marks the Chinese giant’s entry into the clamshell foldable phone market, competing directly with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 and Motorola Razr+ 2024.

Global release confirmed

Now, the new phone will debut globally. The big news came from the company’s CEO, Lei Jun himself.

In a post on the X platform, he confirmed that the Mix Flip will be available internationally starting this month.

According to Jun, the project required hundreds of design changes and years of work to result in a product that combines the performance of a flat-screen flagship with the advantages of the foldable format.

Specifications and innovations

The device has a 120Hz external screen, a larger battery than its competitors and a dual 50-megapixel main camera setup, bearing the prestigious Leica brand.

The main display also offers a 120Hz refresh rate. The processor is Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, one of the most powerful at the moment.

Price and competition

Although the official price for the global market has not yet been announced, rumors suggest that the company’s first foldable phone could cost around 1,300 euros in Central and Eastern Europe.

This price would position the device as a competitive alternative to Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy Z Flip6.

Success in the Chinese market

The phone’s success in China seems to have already exceeded Xiaomi’s expectations.

According to industry sources, around 200,000 units are already in use in the Chinese market, with demand so high that another round of production may be necessary.

This is in stark contrast to the seemingly underwhelming performance of the Mix Fold 4, the Mix Flip’s bigger sibling, which doesn’t seem to have captivated audiences to the same extent.

No wireless charging

However, the phone does not offer wireless charging, an essential feature in 2024. Also, the refresh rate of the main screen lags behind the 165Hz offered by the Motorola Razr+.

A strong competitor in the folding market

Despite these minor shortcomings, the Xiaomi Mix Flip promises to be a strong contender in the global foldable phone market.

With the global launch imminent, it remains to be seen how it will perform in international markets and whether it will manage to erode the market share of rivals Samsung and Motorola.
