Last Thursday, Prime Video subscribers were able to watch the eighth and final episode of season 4 of The Boys. Suffice to say that things have seriously deteriorated for Hughie’s gang, unlike Homelander who touches his biggest dream. If the surprises were obviously there (see the explanations here), Amazon has not yet played all its best cards. After all, there is still an entire season to produce.
Season 5 will have the difficult task of putting an end to the most trashy series in the company’s catalog. If the comics give us a good indication of the level of violence we can expect, it’s been a long time since the plot of the series no longer follows its source material on extremely important points. So what can we expect from this next season of The Boys ?
Homelander vs Butcher vs le monde ?
As a reminder, Hughie is the main character of the series and the comics. However, it has been several seasons that Butcher and Homelander are placed at the center of the plotwith the most interesting development of the entire production. As Butcher rapidly approaches his own end, the widower has nothing left to lose. He now holds the virus that can kill his sworn enemy (and himself in the process), there is no doubt that the confrontation will indeed take place.
It’s the circumstances that are still unknown. Homelander has just won his government pass and declared martial law. So he has an entire army at his side to fight the mercenary, no matter how reckless he may be. Especially since Hughie and his gang will probably not be on his side for the first time in the series.
Indeed, Butcher has crossed the line. By making Ryan flee and killing Victoria Neuman, he directly opposes Hughie’s “pacifist” ideas, who is now looking for redemption. Over the seasons, the young man has taken the place of Butcher’s spiritual little brother, so it will surely be up to him to stop him before he goes too far, just as Ryan will have to stop his father.
The teenager is slowly opening his eyes to Homelander’s actions, but is still influenced by his deviant father figure. After killing Grace Mallory, it is likely that Ryan will question himself and his entire recent education at the same time. In addition, he is one of the few people whose powers can oppose (or even surpass) those of his father.
Everyone is a hero
We remind you that season 5 of The Boys is expected for 2026 at the earliest. In the meantime, season 2 of Gen V will already be out. We have seen with this season 4 that two characters from the spin-off have already joined the cast of the main series (learn more about the Guardians of Godolkin). It would therefore not be surprising if Marie Moreau and her gang came for the finale of The Boysto help Hughie.
It is also remembered that the latter keeps a temporary dose of compound V since season 3. He never used it during his fight against Soldier Boy, so it’s still out there, waiting to be used. Some people already see it Queen Maeve Returns. She who lost her powers could recover them during a fateful fight, against Homelander or one of his henchmen.
The one who will officially have special abilities is Ashley. She injects herself with permanent Compound V when Homelander’s manhunt is announced. The character has already shown signs of redemption in past seasons, there is no doubt that she will join the “good guys” camp, her greatest fear being to be eliminated by Homelander, a man she despises.
Soldier Boy is also expected to play a fairly important role in Season 5. Homelander now knows that this is his biological father, but their last meeting was decisive. The former hero expressed immense disgust towards his offspring, who is just waiting to be loved by everyone. It is not yet known at what end he will be awakened, but no doubt he will be used as a strategic pawn.
A bloody ending close to the comics?
The question on everyone’s mind is: will the end of The Boys will it match the one in the comics? In fact, no. Some things are now impossible to implement given the liberties taken by the creators of the series. However, it seems that the atmosphere is very close to itThe final events of season 4 make us say, without spoilers, that season 5 could be as trashy and bloody as the end of the comics.
We are already preparing for the death of some characters and a fight between Supers with surprising powers and purely selfish intentions. We do not yet know who will live their last hours but Eric Kripke, the creator of the series, already declares:
“I’m excited to bring the story to a bloody, epic and wet climax.”
