What happened one day after Romania

The Romanian national team ended the duel with the similar representative from Kosovo undecided on the field, score 0-0, but the final result is expected from UEFA, after Franco Foda’s students left the playing field in extra time and did not return for the end of the game on National Arena.

Even so, the white draw moved the tricolor national team up in the ranking of the coefficients after which the value urns are established at the draw for the World Championship in 2026.

FRF received the news a day after Romania – Kosovo

The tricolors ended the duel with Kosovo in a draw on the field, and now the final verdict is expected from UEFA, after the opponents “ran” off the pitch before the end of the meeting and did not return. This point obtained by Mircea Lucescu’s boys it was enough for the Romanian national team to rise in the ranking of the coefficients according to which the value urns are established at the draw for the World Cup for over two years.

Drăgușin and the company took advantage of the wrong step made by Slovakia with Sweden, score 1-2, and climbed to the 20th place in the hierarchy of national teams from the Old Continent, with 1,487 accumulated points.

If, as would be normal, UEFA will come with a decision favorable to Romania and give victory at the green table for the tricolors, then our national team will be almost certain of the presence in the second ballot in the draw for the WC 2026.

Only one team can take us out of the calculations

The only team that could remove Romania from the second-ranked urn is Scotland, the first under the line. Should the Scots get a win in their last Nations League match against Poland then the tricolors would need only one point with Cyprus to secure this very important position.

At the 2026 World Cup, from the European preliminaries, only the first ranked team from each group qualifies directly, the second ranked going to the play-offs. The best four group winners from the Nations League, who do not finish in the top two in the qualifiers, also reach the play-offs.

We remind you that the draw for WC 2026 qualifications will take place on December 13, 2024.
