Mihaela Cambei, the silver medalist in weightlifting at the Olympic Games in Paris, revealed that her life did not change radically after this performance, maybe she just became known, and people sometimes harass her on the street because of this.
The athlete from Romania won the silver medal in the weightlifting event at this summer’s Olympics, placing second on the podium with a total of 205 kg, just one kilogram away from the Olympic gold won by Hou Zhihui.
Mihaela Cambei became much too well known after the medal at the Olympic Games. The athlete feels easily stuck on the street
The weightlifter did not change her lifestyle much after the great performance achieved in Paris, where she took into account the bronze medal in the 49 kilogram category. She lifted 93 kg in the snatch, ranking first, and 112 kg in the throw. In the end, Cambei ranked second, with a total of 205 kg, just one kilogram away from the Olympic gold awarded by Hou Zhihui.
A few months apart, Mihaela Camba’s life has not changed in a radical way. Maybe it just became more popular. Maybe too much, a fact recognized even by her. At the same time, she revealed that she has recently benefited from more opportunities due to her performance this summer. However, the athlete remains grounded and is already training very seriously for the next professional competitions.
“There were a lot of opportunities, I had a lot of people by my side (not after he won silver at the Olympics). Now, I’m starting to realize what that medal meant. My life hasn’t changed, that’s how I feel, only people see me differently. I’m a much more well-known person now. He congratulates me even after so many months.
It remained a very pleasant feeling, only that in some moments I am too recognizable (no laughs). I had a little break after finishing the Olympic Games, and now I’m back in the training room”, said Mihaela Cambei, according to as.ro.
Stunned by the gesture of tycoon Ion Țiriac. “It helps us a lot that we are also supported by the Romanians”
Mihaela Cambei says that she was completely stunned by the huge gesture of the billionaire Ion Ţiriac, who offered a luxury car for each medal obtained by Romanian athletes at the Olympic Games. For now, the silver medalist in Paris does not have a driver’s license and keeps the car in the parking lot.
“Ion Ţiriac’s car is currently in the parking lot. I have already started to register the numbers, the car and to start giving my license this year. I didn’t have permission, I don’t have… I have to give this year. (no – Was this car a big surprise? Did you expect it?) I didn’t expect it, it really was a surprise. I was notified, I think, about two days before I competed. I knew that a car would be given.
The first time, if I’m not mistaken, it was about David Popovici. After which they said gold. After that they said that they give a car to everyone who gives a medal. And I was slightly pleasantly surprised. It helps us a lot that we are also supported by the Romanians, practically. That this matters the most”, said Mihaela Cambei at gsp.ro.
