While there was a malfunction in the systems of US-based technology company Microsoft, American Airlines stated that the problem was caused by the cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike.
American Airlines says it experienced a “technical issue” with Crowdstrike that caused an IT outage affecting companies around the world.
Founded in 2011 to protect companies and hardware from cyber threats and security vulnerabilities, Crowdstrike tries to prevent malicious software or files from reaching corporate networks from devices such as phones and laptops with the security service it provides.
Crowdstrike’s goals include providing security support to companies that are shifting their data to cloud systems rather than protecting it under their own roof or on their own servers.
The Texas-based firm was founded by George Kurtz and Dmitri Alperovitch and went public on the tech-heavy Nasdaq exchange in 2019.
Crowdstrike, which provides cybersecurity to the world’s largest companies, was commissioned by the US Democratic National Committee to investigate a breach of its computer network in 2016.
