Mick Schumacher (25) has given some details about the relationship he had with his father, the legendary Michael Schumacher (55), before and after the tragic accident in December 2013.
At that time, Mick was only 14 years old and fully felt the consequences of what happened, especially since he already dreamed of becoming, like his father, a great driver in Formula 1.
“I had to make my own way.” He was strongly supported by his father, after which everything collapsed! Mick Schumacher’s confession
Michael Schumacher, the legendary Ferrari driver, will soon turn 56 on January 3, 2025. And earlier, in December 2024, it will be 11 years since the tragic skiing accident that changed his life.
For more than ten years, very few details about Schumacher’s health have emerged in the public domain. Basically, all that is known is that the former Formula 1 champion is conscious and living with his family. Otherwise, absolutely no details are known about his physical, mental or appearance.
However, some information has recently come to light. A person from Michael Schumacher’s entourage revealed that he can only communicate with the help of his eyes. At the same time, the former Ferrari driver was recently at his daughter’s weddingwhich fueled a hypothesis that Schumacher would be in somewhat decent condition.
In addition, with the release of the book “Iside Mercedes F1”, authored by Matt Whyman, Michael Schumacher’s son also agreed to provide some important details.
Mick is also a Formula 1 driver, having raced for two seasons with Haas and was Mercedes’ reserve driver for one season in 2023. But his career in the sport began before his father suffers the tragic accident in 2013. And back then, Mick had the full support of his father. But later he found himself in a position he did not anticipate and had to carve his own path to Formula 1:
I had to create my own path,” said Mick Schumacher, quoted by The Sunimplying that his father could not be the same after the 2013 accident.
What Michael Schumacher was like before the accident
Instead, before the accident, when he saw that his son really wanted to become a Formula 1 driver, Michael Schumacher took his role as a mentor very seriously.
He was very supportive and very funny but challenging at the same time. I remember at one point in a go-kart race, I braked very late in a corner and managed to gain a lot of time. I went to tell him about it, and he said, “Yeah, but you should have braked the same in every turn.” Whenever he felt I wasn’t taking things seriously, he’d come over and say, “Mick, would you rather be playing football with your friends instead of doing this? If so, there is no point in continuing”. I insisted that I wanted to compete and he said: “Okay, then let’s do it right!”. We started going to more karting competitions in Europe and getting better and better,” said Mick Schumacher.
The tricks he learned from his father before the accident in 2013 still help Mick Schumacher today, as he himself reveals, according to The Sun.
My father was always very open to me trying anything I wanted to do. And racing is really what I want to do, because I’ve always liked it the most,” added Mick Schumacher.
