The number of second-hand cars registered in Romania increased in 2024, compared to the first 9 months of last year. Here are the most sought-after brands and how much money, on average, buyers spend on a Second-Hand car.
The car market in Romania registered growth in the first nine months of 2024. New car registrations increased by 4.3% compared to the same period in 2023, and the second-hand car market appreciated by 9.7 percent.
Also, car re-registrations, which accounted for more than half of SH vehicle transactions, increased by 4.7%.
How much money do Romanians spend on a Second-Hand vehicle?
An analysis carried out by autovit.ro shows that, on average, those who bought a car in 2024 allocated a budget between 10,000 and 25,000 euros.
About 36% of those who searched for their car were interested in a new vehicle. And over 50% of those who accessed the platform were looking for cars over 15,000 euros.
Next, diesel and gasoline engines are at the top of buyers’ preferences.
What is the most wanted car in Romania?
Among the searches, diesel models are preferred by Volkswagen, Audi and BMW. For petrol vehicles, Volkswagen and Skoda lead the ranking of user preferences, followed by BMW.
Demand for hybrid and electric vehicles is lower but growing. Toyota is the leader in the search for hybrid models, along with Hyundai and BMW.
SUVs are the most sought-after types of vehicles, according to the analysis carried out by the authors of the study.
These types of vehicles were found in more than 30% of user searches and made up almost 44% of the dealers’ offer.
Sedans were also quite popular, with almost 23% of searches, followed by station wagons, which appeared in 16% of searches.
The most viewed used car brands on the platform that performed this analysis are BMW, Volkswagen and Audi.
BMW models recorded almost 170,000 views, Volkswagen models just over 168,000, and Audi cars approximately 155,000.
The most wanted car models in Romania
The most searched car models, between January and September 2024, were:
- BMW Series-3: 88,871 hits;
- Volkswagen Golf: 83,660 hits.
In the top view of auto parts, the ranking made by the authors of the study is:
- BMW – 729,127 unique views;
- Volkswagen – 384,472 unique views;
- multi-brand category – 368,874 unique views.
The “body-interior” subcategory is the most viewed. BMW recorded over 189,300 views in the first 9 months of the year, followed by Volkswagen with 40,044 hits and Mercedes-Benz with 37,238.
