Yes to the Law School no to the Jus Soli. This is the opinion of Italians photographed by two different surveys carried out respectively by YouTrend and the NotoSondaggi institute. Among those in favor of granting citizenship at the end of a 5-year study cycle, together with the voters of the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement, those of Forza Italia also stand out. Also interesting is the difference in the answers that vary based on the age group to which the interviewees belong. Let’s see in detail what emerged.
What the YouTrend survey for Sky Tg24 says
According to YouTrend’s survey for Sky Tg24, 55% of Italians are in favour of Law School against 40% who are against it. To these we can add a 5% of ‘undecided’ who, when asked “What do you think about Italian citizenship granted after 5 years of school?”, answered: “I don’t know”.
In particular, looking at the age of the interviewees, it emerges that among those in favor, 68% are between 18 and 34 years old. This percentage decreases for the 35-54 age group (51%) and for the over 55s (53%).
How many new Italian citizens would there be thanks to the Ius Scholae in a year?
As regards the political affiliation of the participants, those in favour of the Ius Scholae are in the majority among the voters of the Democratic Party (more than 8 out of 10), of the 5 Star Movement (58%) but also among those of Go Italy. In fact, the blue voters in favor, almost 6 out of 10, would be more than the five-star voters.
Opinions are divided on the number of years of schooling required to obtain citizenship: 24% say 5 years would be enough, 14% would prefer 8 years, 20% would prefer all compulsory schooling, while 37% believe that citizenship cannot depend ‘only on school’.
Lo Ius Soli However, it does not seem to meet with the approval of those interviewed. In fact, 48% say they are against granting citizenship to those born in Italy, compared to 46% in favor.
What is the opinion of Italians on Ius Scholae and Ius soli according to NotoSondaggi
The results captured by NotoSondaggi appear quite similar to the majority of Italians in favor of Ius Scholae (53%) and 34% against. Among the voters of the Democratic Party 9 out of 10 are in favor and among those of the Green Left Alliance the percentage reaches 96%.
In the center-left, voters of M5s (71%), Azione (57%) and Italia Viva (54%) are also in favor. In the center-right, however, only those who vote for Forza Italia would like to grant citizenship upon completion of a course of study (48%). In fact, voters of Fratelli d’Italia and Lega remain against (69% and 74%).
Even in this case, it is not convincing. Ius Soli with 41% of Italians against compared to 35% in favor. This percentage rises significantly among voters of Fdi (71%) and Lega (81%), while it remains lower among those of Forza Italia and M5s, respectively 46% and 45%.
However, those interviewed who vote for the Democratic Party (60%), Avs (66%), Action (42%) and IV (47%) remain in favor of recognizing citizenship to those born in Italy.
Finally, 4 out of 10 Italians say they are against the hypothesis that who is a foreigner but works and pays taxes in Italy can obtain citizenship. In this case, only 35% are in favor.
