Former president Traian Băsescu sent an ironic message to Donald Trump, drawing his attention to the fact that the United States needs an alliance with Europe, because “America can no longer face the Russian-Chinese threat alone”.

Băsescu presented this point of view in a message posted on Facebook on January 15, 2025.

“The boast about stopping the war in Ukraine in 24 hours remains only a statement that covers the ridiculousness of the person issuing it.

What the Fanfaron from Mar-a-Lago does not understand is that America can no longer face alone the Russian-Chinese yoke that is tightening ever stronger through Russia in Europe and through China in the Asia-Pacific.

Trump must understand that the honest partnership with the European Union is the only solution so that together, the US and the EU can be the political and military force that maintains democracy and peace on the planet”, says the former head of state of Romania.

Regarding the territorial claims issued by Trump, Băsescu relates them to the evolution of the war in Ukraine.

“If we go by the public statements, it seems that in the White House we will have someone like Putin and then, very likely, Greenland will be put on the same table with Ukraine in the peace talks with Moscow and the Panama Canal on the same table with economic sanctions and customs duties for China in the discussions with Beijing”, estimates Traian Băsescu.
