What will the iPhone 17 Pro actually look like? New images contradict the initial information

Apple is preparing a series of important changes for the next generation iPhone 17 Pro, according to sources cited by a reputable publication in the field of gadgets.

The main novelty would be the reduction of the size of the Dynamic Island, the distinctive element introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro that houses the Face ID sensors and the front camera.

iPhone 17 Pro: Meta Lens technology

To make it possible to shrink it, Apple will implement a technology called Meta Lens (or metalens) for the Face ID system.

Instead of relying on traditional curved lenses, it uses nano-structures to manipulate light. Because they are flat and light, the lenses allow the space required for components to be reduced, making a more discreet dynamic island possible.

Analyst Jeff Pu claimed as early as May 2023 that this technology will be implemented exclusively on the iPhone 17 Pro Max model. The other variants in the range would retain the current dimensions of the Dynamic Island.

Thinner edges and dual finish

In addition to the changes to the dynamic island, the new phone will also benefit from a reduction in the thickness of the screen edges.

This change is another step towards Apple’s goal of creating an iPhone with an edge-to-edge screen, without any element interrupting the display.

Sources also point to the introduction of a dual finish for the back, combining glass with aluminum to maintain wireless charging capabilities. As for the photo module, Apple will not follow the trend set by the Google Pixel with horizontally aligned sensors, but will keep the triangular configuration specific to the Pro series.

iPhone 17 Pro models vs. the rest of the range

While an all-glass iPhone remains a dream for now, the changes in store for the upcoming Pro device are major steps in that direction.

For this to become a reality, Apple will have to perfect the technologies necessary to integrate the sensors and the front camera under the screen, while maintaining the functionality of the Face ID system.

iPhone 17 Air

Along with the Pro variant, Apple prepare and the launch of an “Air” model, which promises to be the thinnest ever, surpassing the record set by the iPhone 6 in 2014. Although the biggest camera upgrades are scheduled for the iPhone 18, the 17 Pro generation will also bring notable improvements photo system.

It remains to be seen which of these rumors will materialize, but it is clear that Apple is working on reimagining the iconic iPhone design for the next generations.
